I would first like to point out that you have yet to see my video so you have yet to make this assumption.superboi wrote: if you can't overcome an AMV that relies on the pretty anime footage, then maybe you still need to do some work...
My video wasn't shown and part of me feels that maybe they never received it. I'm not claiming that mine would have won hands down, though. I just seem to be a magnet for things going wrong (if this happens to you, then you know what I mean). So it wouldnt suprise me if the format was unable to be read by a windows cpu or I didnt put enough postage on the letter. Either situation my fault.
Ok so let me get back on track. I wasn't "attacking" their video for having great clips, I was "attacking" it because a) it didn't tell a story- which I believe is a must in AMV's- and b) there was nothing spectacular as far as editing or effects go. I say this because I time my videos, I make them portray a story that anyone could follow, I select music that supports this story, and I use some effects. My video isn't overrun with effects, but I use them to my advantage. The reason I felt slightly cheated was simply that sometimes people are blinded by the animation, and they are unable to realize things like the music doesnt fit, or it's a bunch of long clips, or there aren't many effects, or its timed wrong... I could go on and on. I feel that my video looks very proffessional, just like the Air video, but at the same time I feel that people spend too much time oo-ing and aa-ing. Haven't you ever oped an amv? there are more categories than just Visual. Also, I'm wasn't "attacking" that video, I really enjoyed it actually, but it's just one of those things that bothers me when I see AMV's with high ratings because no one knows the anime or the music well enough to put there jaw back up where it belongs. I used to make videos like that (well minus the high ratings), but now I realize that all aspects are important.
