I quite agree. I do NOT do this for profit - not at all.

If any cash prizes, then consider me withdrawn as well.

I am like the two above me, I dont do this for cash and I dont plan on doing this for cash unless I use my own footage or music or something...

Thanks for the comments. It sounded like a good idea at the time, considering it has been done before at Otakon (I think) - but I guess times have changed. We will abandon the $ prize idea so please re-consider remaining in the contest. These reactions are a bit of a surprise to me, but I've learned something regarding people's attitude to $. Much appreciated, everyone!!

Oh, it's not our attitude at all - it's just that most of us are allergic to lawsuits!

And I now consider myself UNwithdrawn.

I understand that. Like I said - "Times Have Changed", and not necessarily for the best. So we're just going to have to play it safe.

Given the power and authority of Otakon's lawyers over how that con is run, I highly doubt they'd allow something like that to happen when they go apeshit over fanart and movie trailers.

I'm fine if money isn't involved, but I'd have thought a con celebrating its 20th year wouldn't even suggest such a thing. You obviously have something to lose if shit with the RIAA went down.

Well, we got a budget this year and we were just trying to come up with something "more" than the usual. Plus the winners who are not present don't get any free givaways, so they get short changed. Anyway, I just got off the phone with Chris and he's fine with keeping things "traditional" and playing it safe. Any ideas for alternative Prizes (or sponsors willing to pitch in) are welcomed.

You guys have given out half-way decent trophies in the past - i'd say either put more into those and/or thin-pack box sets for winners. Unique polycarbonate (lexan) trophies look cool, and editors could always use more source.

what about a gift certificate to the dealers room?

Because when I won first place at Tokyo in Tulsa's AMV contest last year, I won a boxset of Naruto (which I don't like and its still unwrapped) and an Unwrapped FF Advent Children DVD movie... and I already had that Movie...
