Uh.. I don't know the specifics on AX, but if it's like most cons, the majority of the staff consists of volunteers who are, at most, paid back in the form of hotel discounts or a free badge in return for
working the majority of the con. On top of that, AX is a non-profit, so it's highly unlikely anyone is getting filthy rich from running this con. So much of the money that goes into cons goes directly into running the con, renting the space, and everything inbetween...

here, full-fledged staffers basically get up to 2 free badges, some goodies, some discounts, and food "provisions". That's their "payment"; there's no cash. You can read up on volunteers
here, if you want... but they receive less in perks than staffers due to obvious reasons.
