I watched it on YouTube and I agree it is to long... 2:30 - 3:00 would be plentyGloryQuestor wrote:iirc it got a lot of laughs in from the crowd, although I thought you might have gone a bit too long with the idea. It has a lot of great skits in it, though, and I knew it would be either this one or Animu Stew that would get it.Obsidian Zero wrote:Would you mind telling me how my comedy video was received at the con? Alright, cool! I'm working on an anime mix comedy vid, so I'll keep it under 3:00.

When I got started making AMVs back in the 90s a 5 minute video was not uncommon... heck I made a 8 minute video. Now even I agree anything over 3:30 and you run the risk of losing people. Now with AMV hell / short joke videos like urs it just runs on. As a creator when I was watching I was like I like I get it wrap it up lol, but fans might not feel the same way as they will keep laughing.Obsidian Zero wrote:Alright, cool! Now when you enter that into MTAC which I run I am going to have a dilemma as I am somewhat anti AMV Hell style videos (call me an old fart). I don't see them as a traditional / true AMV thus don't like them competing in comedy. I probably will allow them in parody or have a category dedicate to them tho as the fans love them.

Oddly just watched the winner of Drama and see as much action as I had in my video + plus a ton of effect where it felt bit more upbeat to me. Still congrats to the winnersYamiTenouStudios wrote:Here are the finals!! Such a great weekend! Thank you for all for submitting!
Action: Madoka Nebula
Comedy: Attack on Boredom
Con Theme: Don't Mess with Fairy Tail
Dance: Otaku Paradise
Drama: Hearts and Houses
Best in Show: Otaku Paradise
Director's Choice: Otaku Paradise
Thank you once again!!!
I didn't see that The Signal was drama. It had a lot more action than drama. I usually go by the feels with the videos I watch and how well it goes with the music/trailer.
I apologize if that upset you.

What bothers me the most is you didn't even bother contacting me saying we are considering re-categorizing your video. When I ran MTAC if I made any decisions like this I contacted the creator so he could make his case. Then again that is how I did it and if you asked me I would have said I would rather it be in Good vs Evil over action.YamiTenouStudios wrote:

As far as you saying it had a lot more action? There is only about 20 seconds of footage in the video that is action out of a 2:06 video and I would say only 15 seconds of blatant action. It is a simple fact the AMV has more drama than action. Almost the entire first minute of the video is nothing but drama setting the story and the only real action / fast editing in the video happens at 1:24 - 1:40. I could understand if I had a lot of action, but factually speaking the video does not. The tiny portion of action at the end was eye candy / climax to drive home the narrative / story which was Testuo losing control and his decent into madness becoming evil.
Your reasoning seems very arbitrary and very much like because I said so. I also still find it odd how the level of action in the video that won Drama while serving zero purpose to the dramatic story of that video imho is fine... this seems inconsistent. I am not just brow beating you because I am a upset... I am a coordinator as well and I take issue with how my video was just moved... just giving some food for thought and all is good.

I agree with maboroshistudio, I ran several contests myself. If I was questioning the category the editor submitted in, I would contact them about it and explain why I think it should be in the other category. If they don't want it moved I don't move it. It is always best to ask the editor before moving the videos to another category. I understand about making the contest interesting and balanced, but at the same time the editors have the final say of what category they want their amv in. At least that is my take from a contest coordinator perspective.
Live and learn. We all make mistakes, I made plenty of them while running contests.

I respectfully disagree. I believe it's the coordinator's job to ensure a smooth and clean show, and a lot of times that means moving entries around. The entrants may suggest where they feel their video belongs, but i state in Anime Conji's rules that the judges have the final say.
Nothing wrong with either way, just different.

Re: AkaiCon 2014: Good vs. Evil - (Finalists pg 2)
Every coordinator can run their contest they way they see fit and I just stated how I handled it. Then again MTAC is a much smaller con and I only had 99 entries to deal with. I have seen some contests where there would be a secondary category choice... which isn't bad. If a video has to be re-categorized during judging this resolves that issue. Less issues with running AMV contests and anything to make it easier is good in my book.Rider4Z wrote:I respectfully disagree.
