Is it ok to send a AMV to AWA Pro with 48 fps framerate? What are my options if this is not allowed? Should i go for 24 fps instead?
I strongly recommend sending a copy of your video at one of the standard consumer HD resolutions and frame rates (480P, 720P, 1080P at 30 or 24 FPS). You may also send an additional file of whatever awesomeness you've been able to construct, and I shall applaud you if it works, but be aware that among all of VAT staff we have only one display larger than 1080P (2560x1440 16:9 27" iMac). Video playback is problematic enough without throwing high frame rates at us.

Peter Jackson has a bigger budget than Daric Jackson, and The Video Art Track and AWA just aren't ready for RED Digital Cinema yet. We'll gladly accept such hardware donations, of course.

No one shall applaud me and i'm not doing it for the attention, if thats what you are implying. I used to edit my videos in 60 fps since 2009 and was always converting them to AWA rules. Niotex brought me to the idea of editing with 48 fps instead of 60fps by doing some demo videos. Results were it still looks very fluent but from a editors point without the need to upspeed the footage that much. By saving those 12 frames per second (compared to 60fps) you get a more natural look compared to upspeed stuff to 60. Also when doing fast action sequences you still have enough frames to make it look enjoyable. I hope that justifies my decision.

By the way i don't think my question was THAT retarded to provoke an asshole reaction like yours jingoro. Get a grip, man!

Anyway since your hardware is limited and you honestly answered my question in the end i will submit my entry at 24.00 fps.

Woah! What did I say?! I thought I was providing the best answer I could given our technical limitations when screening. I'd love to show your work off at 42fps or 60fps or anything if I only could!! You have always created exceptional works, and we've been privileged to have you submitting to our contests.

Please accept my apologies, and as we have never had a technical issue with anything you've submitted, please continue doing what you're doing.

With the deadline less than a week away, I'm a little concerned, myself. The upload site still shows my video as pending, and I e-mailed my completed entry form two weeks ago, but the upload site still says "not received."

Last I heard, VAT Technical was going to move the deadline. Please stay tuned.

Please accept my apologies for misinterpreting what you said but "whatever awesomeness i've been able to construct" or the implication my specs would require donations for high tech stuff combined with the announcement to applaud me in case i succeed with the magic of simply raising the framerate ... sounds very sarcastical to me.

Like i said i'm just curious what the new regulations are about other framerates. I highly enjoyed AWA Pro last year so even when short on time i want to enter this year again.

Anyway this looks like a big misunderstanding. I'm sorry for causing some trouble.

Good luck with the contest. I'll submit my entries soon.

The fault is entirely mine. I was trying to be helpful and amusing at the same time, hard to do in writing.

There've been no changes to our technical requirements. I rephrased the rules this year to encourage MP4 submissions (smaller, easier to upload, easier for us to store, supporting HD formats) and simplify the rest. Everything anyone has had success doing for us in years past is still welcome and appreciated.

Thank you, and best of luck to you as well.

All,

We have had some delays with the otakuvideo submission web site. Please rest assured your entries are not in any sort of disqualification jeopardy. I have a good number of both mailed and emailed permission slips that must be entered into the site before the status of your video will change, and the upload must be checked by VAT Technical as well. This will not, necessarily, happen before the deadline (which as I mentioned will be extended once more) and may take up to a week after we close submissions.

The important thing is that your video is registered and your upload completes before the deadline. If there are any technical problems with the upload, we will work with you to get us a replacement. The same goes for any permission slips that may be missing.

Thank you,
Daric "Jingoro" Jackson
Video Art Track Director, AWA 17
