My main entry was supposed to be drama and I offered a comedy. I also have some other vids that might be finishable but if I'm limited to two entries, I can't help you.
The two from you are fine. I was stressing that I needed more from other people is all.

I just checked them - you're all set. My prescreeners might want to re-categorize your drama as romance though.

That said, I thank everyone for getting their entries in these last few days. We're a lot closer to a full contest now. However, Romance is still pretty bare (and that's kinda weird).

I don't get it. NekoCon was light on Comedy and Upbeat entries. Now you say your con is short on Romance. Is this kind of thing regional or are people thinking Drama and Action are the "easier" categories these days?..because those two just happened to be our most populated this year... :?

I've always found Action and Drama tend to have the most competition generally. A mindless action video is easy to make, and drama only takes lyric sync and a slow song generally so people tend to make those. At least this is what I have noticed ever since I started entering videos into contests back in 2003.

If I had another new vid I would submit it. But sadly both of my AWA entries would be disqualified due to content. I'll see what I can do.

Romance is basically a sub-genre of Drama in the vast majority of cases (and a sub-genre of "upbeat" in just about all of the others). It's usually the same techniques as Drama.

EDIT - guess I have to state the obvious implication that it should occur just as frequently, all things being equal.

Alright. Thanks Bashar. I don't have a problem if you move it to Romance. If that's what the judges feel it should be moved to then so be it.

I don't know about "mindless." I've heard comments made by voters to the effect of, "Oh, yay...things blowing up...things moving fast...more fighting...yay." Then they vote for the video where the action sequences are connected and cohesive in terms of story rather than something that was just thrown together and looks pretty.

Drama isn't so easy, either. The viewers can see if the video tells a story or tracks with the context of the song. You've really accomplished something if you can manipulate a sequence to tell a different story than either the anime or song intended.

Comedy is just plain HARD! Especially in terms of trying to predict what your audience will find funny from year to year. You have to be psychic, good at reading trends, or just lucky to get anywhere in this category.

Upbeat is the category that puts me off due to my lack of ambition. This is where editors get to show off their technical skills, special effects programs, and beat sync acumen. It's the category which requires the least amount of feeling and the most technique.

Romance is just the opposite. I've tried to come up with a good romantic video but, in spite of having the right song and anime, it's not something I'm in tune with. Feeling for romance can mean the difference between a good story or a mere character profile.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong... :P

Ok, to be honest, when I say making a drama video or an action video is easy I'm not exactly talking about making a GOOD one. To make a good video, no matter the genre, takes a lot of planning, a good idea, and the editing technique to pull the idea off. You can technically very easily make a video for any convention category if you know the basics of what makes a video drama, action, upbeat, dance, romance, comedy, trailer, ect. Making one that the audience will love or one that judges or other editors will find merit in is what makes editing any video difficult. And in the end editing a video that you yourself will enjoy is perhaps the hardest thing of all to do, which is why many editors stick within a certain genre of videos, because they can't please themselves any other way.

And as for Romance being a drama sub-genre, yeah I realize this. I often find drama videos that would have been better served being in the romance category often times when both are available. But that is the problem sometimes with categorizing videos, because so many can't really be pinned to any one category. But then it's difficult to come up with awards prior to an event, because without categories to start with then the judges have to make their own.

Though I think we're kind of getting side tracked from the main point that the contest needs more vids ^^()

Only one week left to get submissions in. If you still need an FTP account hurry up with the requesting.

There's been at least one person with an open FTP for months that hasn't responded to any of the emals i've sent them regarding it. If that happens to be you, PM me.
