Several of the judges as well as being anime fans are also very much AMV fans. With rather sizable personal collections of AMVs they have gathered over the years. Our judges cover a wide spectrum. From 10 plus year veterans of AMVs to some new to AMVs and several stops in between. I would love to have more editors on the panel but ...thing is... most of you are in the contest which automatically disqualifies you as being one of the judges.
Explain the Bakemonogatari video with the subtitles and no action in the Action category?
I'm pretty sure the only answer that your going to get is that it was a mistake and nothing else. What do you expect Michael to say really? You should be asking about Death Note Rapsphody if anything. That was a comedy based video in drama, on top of the editing, it won best in show. Did we ever get a proper explanation for that? I don't think so and there's no point in dwelling on it either because it's just pointless to do so now for many stupid reasons.

I have no doubt in my mind that this will literally be an epic AMV contest due to the cash prize, if it turns out to be shitty then I'd really question whats going on with the judging. Though, from the looks of it, that won't be the case this year, considering that confirmation emails went out at lightening speeds on top of the 300 or so record entries this year. Didn't get that last year (or ever) now did we? It seems like Michael is doing his best to learn from the previous years and now that's starting to show. Let's try to keep it at that.

Though knowing you Radical that won't happen and I don't blame ya. Your criticism has shaped things up a bit. :P
Only reason I brought up the Bakemonogatari vid a opposed to the Death Note Rhapsody vid is because after the DNR vid I had hoped to not find anymore major mistakes with the judging. Sadly, the Bake vid proved me wrong.

Please don't think I asked any of those questions with hostility as my intention. I was simply curious about what type of good aspects were found in a video like that to warrant a spot in the finals. One of the number one ways to clear up frustration and confusion is through understanding. Hence my who/why questions about the judging.
I know with NDK, those answers can be provided with no problem....so I don't see any reason why they should create problems here. :p

And yes, I can see they've been, at least, trying to improve. Good to see.

Once more, no malicious intent lol Simple easy to answer question ;).

Also, thanks for the...compliment? :p I'm stubborn, I'll never change and damn proud of it.

I know the staff doesn't mind getting them, but it still really seems like a douche move this year, considering the stakes.
I mean, I'm really hoping that the other entrants have thought this through and realized they don't want to be "that editor" who ends up winning that much cash with a video they happened to have lying around from previous years. Because can you imagine the firestorm THAT would ignite?

I can see it :p
But I wouldn't be ashamed if I was the one who won with an old video. According to xstylus it would been an HONOR for them.

The reason for that quote was because last year everyone was up in arms protecting the ability to send in ridiculously old entries. Well, everyone got what they wanted.

At this point I'm not going to get mad at those who submit old videos considering how hard everyone worked to preserve them. (I was personally against it)

Be careful what you wish for...you just might get it....

I deliberately went out of my way to produce something new. So I can definitely see how it'd be a bitter pill to swallow. Granted we'll not know till the finals are posted. That being said the concern is absolutely legitimate. I again hope that judges will take it into account on an individual basis.

Every year, I make something new.

The only time where I did send an older video was when my vid was DQ'ed due to technical difficulties and had the chance to resubmit it the next year.

I actualy did submit one video that is actually two years old by AX. The reason I sent it however was not because of the prize but because the nature of the video ment it was never acceptable at AX in prior years because it didn't fall into a proper catagory. Since the new catagory was implemented the video finally can quality for something so I sent it there. So technically it's not even eligable for best in show.
