I also agree with this. While AMV Hell was funny the first time, it really doesn't hold up over the long term (And I didn't like AMV Hell 2 much at all). I also think it is a bit lazy.Ashyukun wrote:I personally have really enjoyed a number of these types of videos- Real Ninjas definitely had some great moments in it (Gara's Theme was one of the most delightfully wrong things I've seen in a while), and I've thoroughly enjoyed both AMV Hell 1 & 2 and am a part of the AMV Hell 3- but honestly I'd much prefer seeing solid concept comedy videos that carry through over a full song instead of relying on short rapid-fire funny segments.
Sorry I couldn't be at Otakon again, but I have another event that conflicts when Otakon is in the 2nd and 3rd weekends of August, so that happens. I'm looking forward to downloading the videos.

I wasn't going to say anything - I can appreciate not liking a particular style, that's a matter of opinion. However, just like any other style, a good "blipvert" video takes effort; laziness will show regardless of style. I tried to incorporate a theme in my video - I spent a lot of time switching the order of my scenes, adding and dropping other scenes, and generally trying to build a sense of flow. I have a good dozen songs I had footage for and never used.TheLongShot wrote:I also think it is a bit lazy.
And I didn't rip off AMV Hell (multi-song, multi-series)! I ripped off Azumanga or DIE-OH (multi-song, SINGLE-series)!
Anyway, I'm working on something much more evil, so there!

PS: I also enjoyed Real Ninjas. Very funny.
To paraphrase one Mr. Cool James, please refrain from referring to it as a revival, I've been lurking for ages.

Actually, Azumanga or DIE-oh! is dwchang's Party Hard vid - one song, one anime. You're thinking of RollTheStampede's Azumanga DIE-OH.rogueintellectproductions wrote:And I didn't rip off AMV Hell (multi-song, multi-series)! I ripped off Azumanga or DIE-OH (multi-song, SINGLE-series)!
Wow, that's some real creativity in name selection, there.

Brilliance! I'll just have to call my next trailer, "Azumanga Must Dai-oh"dokool wrote:Azumanga or DIE-oh! is dwchang's Party Hard vid - one song, one anime. You're thinking of RollTheStampede's Azumanga DIE-OH.

I don't think that making segmented/blipvert videos is necessarily lazy- but I do think that they shouldn't be lumped in with conventional comedy videos as well. Personally I don't think either is particularly easy to do well- but holding a concept and the audience's interest through an entire song (yes, many of us do edit the songs these days- but still you're usually talking minutes vs. seconds for conventional comedy vids) is, at least to me, more impressive and takes more skill. I just worry that the conventional comedy video will be overshadowed and pushed aside in favor of the segmented, which is why I think they should have their own category if they continue to grow in popularity- that way both types can be enjoyed in contests without worrying about one shafting the other.rogueintellectproductions wrote:stuff I'm too lazy to quote properly

Fair enough. I don't think blips'll ever overshadow traditional comedy videos, though - I mean, look at The Wizard of Ozaka winning out over two such videos. It was way more original and way funnier than my little vid. If they do wind up growing in popularity, though, I wouldn't be averse to having a separate category. Heck, maybe they should be put in the Fan Parody blocks at Otakon, same as the trailers.Ashyukun wrote:I just worry that the conventional comedy video will be overshadowed and pushed aside in favor of the segmented, which is why I think they should have their own category if they continue to grow in popularity- that way both types can be enjoyed in contests without worrying about one shafting the other.
I don't plan on revisiting the segmented video genre, anyway (I will participate in other's projects, though); next year I plan on having characters from a bunch of different series meet together and go off on an RPG-inspired adventure.

(Oh, by the way, who else noticed the lack of a Best of Show spot on the ballot? I'd'a loved to see who'd've won that.)

No, you ripped off "<a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... v=16130">A Song for Everyone</a>" (multi-song, single-series, came out in <b>2003</b>).rogueintellectproductions wrote:And I didn't rip off AMV Hell (multi-song, multi-series)! Well, I'd been under the impression that, since instituting the different categories, 2004 was the only year they'd given a Best of Show award.rogueintellectproductions wrote:(Oh, by the way, who else noticed the lack of a Best of Show spot on the ballot? I'd'a loved to see who'd've won that.)

The Wizard of Ozaka was indeed a masterpiece but it did not have me ROFL like Real Ninjas did. When I watched WoO alone, I chuckled here and there but when I watched RN again, I was still LMAO. It was witty humor vs. slapstick at some level.rogueintellectproductions wrote: Fair enough. However, I agree that it might be a good idea down the road to give it it's own category.
