major liability issues... remember the AMV contest at AX was a dirty secret for years they were so afraid of legal issues / offending guests from Japan

I didn't know this. Really? I have been attending AX since 2006, well I missed 2009, but yeah. I never knew the AMV contest was a secret.

It wasn't a secret, it just wasn't promoted. The event would barely get much mention in the program guide or on the website, and also often threw a lot of hurdles to those who'd want to run any sort of an AMV panel (such as prohibiting playing any actual AMVs at the panel).

Things got better from 2008 and onward when new management came in.

I was there in '07 though
