I think it took until 2005 for the AMV contest to appear again in the program guide.

It wasn't a secret, it just wasn't promoted. The event would barely get much mention in the program guide or on the website, and also often threw a lot of hurdles to those who'd want to run any sort of an AMV panel (such as prohibiting playing any actual AMVs at the panel).neko kitkat wrote:I didn't know this. Really? I have been attending AX since 2006, well I missed 2009, but yeah. I never knew the AMV contest was a secret.MaboroshiStudio wrote:major liability issues... remember the AMV contest at AX was a dirty secret for years they were so afraid of legal issues / offending guests from JapanMagicflier wrote:You all should record the whole showing and share the love to us foreigners (ง •̀_•́)ง
Things got better from 2008 and onward when new management came in.

So something that isn't promoted or in the program at a convention is not keeping it a secret? It was just underground and only the cool kids knew where it was and the secret password... hehe too bad they couldn't keep out the paper airplane mafia!XStylus wrote: It wasn't a secret, it just wasn't promoted. When the LA norm is "This is a $15,000 nose job. Now it's pierced." instead?Castor Troy wrote:"This is a $15,000 screen. I, of course, almost misread that as "This is a $15,000 blow job. Now it's pierced."BasharOfTheAges wrote:When the LA norm is "This is a $15,000 nose job. Now it's pierced." instead?

That was AX2002 and it was probably a good thing you missed that year... it was the dreaded "Curse of Long Beach".Rider4Z wrote:I don't know if I'm sad I missed that year or glad.Castor Troy wrote:"This is a $15,000 screen. Now it's pierced."
