Hi All,
As submissions are now closed for the Animethon AMV and I have had a chance to go through and catalog all the entries.
This year a total of 92 entries have been accepted into Anime Evolution's AMV Contest from a total of 10 countries!!! A count of 61 individuals or studios entered.
As the categories are not announced until after the deadline and are based on best fit as chosen by each entrant on the submission form, this year we have received so many trailers that I am expanding the total amount of categories from 5 to 6 to accommodate a Parody/Trailer one. The categories for this year (and the total videos in each) are as follows:
- Romance/Sentimental (29 entries)
- Drama-Serious (17 entries)
- Action (9 entries)
- Comedy (10 entries)
- Upbeat/Fun (18 entries)
- Parody/Trailers (9 entries)
Finalists for the contests will be announced a week before Anime Evolution once the judging results are in. Cuts in each category for finalists will be proportional (in other words if 1/3 of the video count make up the contest, 1/3 from each category will be in the finals) to be fair to everyone. Since the categories are pre-judges, and the audience only picks their favorite by ballot, videos are shown in a mixed category order in the contest...
Also, we will show all 5 ½ hours of videos on Sunday in the AMV room (seats 525) which is usually well attended.
Good luck to everyone!
Vlad

Okay, so for purposes of demonstration, let's say there were 90 videos submitted in total, including 30 romances and 15 comedies.CorpseGoddess wrote:Vlad, I'm impaired and don't understand math. Can you clarify the statement that has the "1/3 blah blah blah" in it? Unfortunately, that's exactly how my brain sees it and I don' get it.
If it was decided that only 30 of the 90 videos would be able to fit the finalists block, that's 1/3 of all the videos. So, there would be 10 romances (1/3 of 30) and 5 comedies (1/3 of 15) in the finals.
If on the other hand it was decided that there was room for 36 videos, that's <b>2/5</b> of the total number. So, there would be 12 romances (<b>2/5</b> of 30) and 6 comedies (<b>2/5</b> of 15) in the finals.
So, whatever fraction is taken of the total video count is also the fraction that will be applied to each category individually. The idea is that the sheer numbers of the category you submitted to won't affect your chances of making the finals; you'll have just as much chance in Romance/Sentimental as in Trailer/Parody no matter how over- or under-represented the category was.
... Assuming I'm interpreting Vlad correctly.
