I know I was my own biggest critic making my AMV. You notice 15 things you wish you did better. But the average viewer doesn't notice these things, and it's really hard to keep that in mind when listening to praise/criticism. People are like "Your amv ruled!" and you're like, "no no no I suck."
I'm just hoping my AMV wasn't at the very end (It was a trailer lol.)
I kinda noticed something...each year, there seems to be an influx of AMVs of one particular show. I won't mention names, but there's always one show that has more videos made than the rest.

You know, I made my video, and was really stoked when it was done, but then after a while I looked at it again and made a couple of tweaks. I liked it better after the tweaks; and then I still have things I may have wanted to change, but in the end, I don't think that will change what others think of it overall, liking it or not liking it. However, I did have a slight period with it where others were like "omg it's awesome!" and I was like "no, it's HORRIBLE!! I don't wanna see it" and seriously thought that. But then after a while I saw it again and was like "Actually, I worked long and hard and it ain't so damn bad afterall"Davis 51 wrote:I know I was my own biggest critic making my AMV. Well I'd never been to a pre-screening before, rather just the competition at the convention, but even in the finals a certain amount of amvs for one show can be kind of numerous. Like Katsucon this year. I saw so many Ouran videos (I love the show though don't get me wrong) that it could have been a contest in and of itself for that series alone.I kinda noticed something...each year, there seems to be an influx of AMVs of one particular show. I won't mention names, but there's always one show that has more videos made than the rest.
ETA: I don't really mind many amvs for one series btw, especially if I like them all. I find it interesting to see different perspectives of the editors. There will always be other videos of other series.

I've never been to a pre-screening either, but one year, Roses of Versailles had like 3 entries. Things like that. It's just interesting for looking at trends.
I felt exactly the same way about my AMV. The only tweaks I made though was removing the damn watermarks. (Big thanks to those on here that helped me out with that. You know who you are.) After I sent it in, I wished I changed so much, but some things I hated, other people loved. So I was like, "oh well, I had fun making this. If I get in, that's awesome. My heart is kinda thumping in my chest over the possibility of being a finalist. If not, I'll be dissapointed, but now I have experience and I will be better prepared next time."

Yeah, I think Ouran had like 7 entries at Katsu (not counting any "various" vids where it was included) so 3 to me for a series doesn't seem like much to write home about .Davis 51 wrote:I've never been to a pre-screening either, but one year, Roses of Versailles had like 3 entries. Oh yeah, watermarks is an instant DQ, so that's one bullet dodged. I know what you mean about some people loving things you hate and vice versa in the vid. It's all so very subjective. The final list is a short one and it's every entrant's goal, so I'd imagine disappointment for those who don't make it. But regardless of how it turns out, it has definitely been an experience worthwhile for me and I'll be doing it again next year, including the pre-screening if it's within a reasonable distance.

Yeah, those can be pesky little things, but my program doesn't add watermarks at all.Davis 51 wrote:What's stupid is I didn't realize the watermarks were there until after I submitted it, and I started sweating bullets. Luckily, VicBond was really cool about it, and I got the fixed vid uploaded. Take that Keanu Reeves!
It also helps that there are only 5 others in your category.
Yeah, only 5 others certainly helps. Yours has the least and mines the most, so my mindset has to be a little different . But I created a video for the theme that motivated me at the time and I had a concept for.

If you count Cowboy Bebop TV and Cowboy Bebop the Movie as the "same show" then Cowboy Bebop was the series that got the most attention this year with a whopping 5 entries. Yes, only 5 out of 135. Otherwise it was Death Note with 4, again, barely a blip. Apparently there was no hot, new, overhyped anime this year so it seems that most creators actually came up with a concept rather than just pairing the unreasonably popular show-of-the-year with an overplayed-on-every-radio-station CD single of the moment. Bitter? Hardly. It's the sad truth and every coordinator knows it, but because of how this year turned out I think that the audience is in for a real treat!Davis 51 wrote:I kinda noticed something...each year, there seems to be an influx of AMVs of one particular show. I remember quite a few Kingdom Hearts and FFX ones as well though. Was it just my imagination?VicBond007 wrote:If you count Cowboy Bebop TV and Cowboy Bebop the Movie as the "same show" then Cowboy Bebop was the series that got the most attention this year with a whopping 5 entries. I was the only creator for my series and I really liked that (but again, I do like different perspectives too at times from different editors). And I actually can't recall any songs playing more than once either. Definitely a variety this year.

The first quote made me worried...the second made me breathe a sigh of relief...VicBond007 wrote:If you count Cowboy Bebop TV and Cowboy Bebop the Movie as the "same show" then Cowboy Bebop was the series that got the most attention this year with a whopping 5 entries.
