Gratz to the winners and yaaaaaaaaaay for Ryan! |:>

It was nice to FINALLY meet some new editors. MysteriousRyder and Melichan are officially some of my favorite new people. It's always tons of fun to meet awesome, chill people with talent. :D

Anyways, congrats to the winners, someone will post them soon I'm sure.
I thoght your Urusei Yatsura video was spectacular. I honestly think romance/drama not being split hurt it alot. It definitely made me want to watch that show. I usually like the soppy romance vids, but that was one of the first comedy romance vids I enjoyed at first viewing (they usually tend to grow on me). It genuinely made me want to watch the show, and I usually don't like older series either.

too tired to go back and quote what i read in the last 3 pages but here's my review:

Concourse Hall was better than Hall G. i agree acoustics were bad, and the lights stayed on making it hard for the audience to absorb themselves into the videos, leaving lots of room for... "commentaries" during the show. (if i had been sitting with you, ryan, i probably would have gone mama bear) >>>the energy in the concourse hall was so much more pleasant. the crowd actually seemed happy to be there. of course i sat in the back row that time so any mumbling that may have went on was not in my ear shot. and having 3 screens as opposed to 1 like last year made me wonder why the contest wasn't in there in the first place. *shrug.

creator's jury duty.... yeah nobody was happy about that. bryce suggested we revolt and LC suggested we bolt out the back door.

kinda proud i predicted 4/5 winners. i thought fate matrix would take pro but i voted for ben and bryce :) so glad they took it. all the winners deserve their chair (or chairs in ryan's case. he's got enough of those for a dinning room set.)

troy, that was cool you had the winners come up during the masquerade half-time show. great acknowledgement.

s'all for now. g'night ya'll

We were all too aware of those lights. Our tech staff had been struggling for 45 minutes to get the convention center to turn them off. The final pre-show vid had played and I had to make the go or no-go call to launch the show. I decided "no-go", relaunched a block of preshow, and was so livid at that point that it took three people to calm my ass down, and I'm usually the quiet level headed one.

Anyway, finally the convention center informed us that the fire marshal had dictated a minimum lighting level and that the lights we were permitted to turn off were already off. That was the end of that matter. With nothing to be done about it, I let the matter go and launched the show.

Well, for what it's worth, you've done your jury service and are customarily absolved from being called for jury duty again for another year! [bah dum bum]

Ahem. Anyway, yeah. There was no contingency for the situation, so that was the quickest and simplest idea I could come up with on the fly. Basically, the situation was that there were three vids tied for Creator Favorite (and each had gotten only three votes out of 27), none of which were the Audience Favorite or Judge Favorite. There was supposed to have been a staff favorite too, but of the staffers who attended the staff screening, only five turned in ballots, so I threw it out.

So, yeah. Judging structure. One more thing to revamp for next year. :D

It didn't go as smoothly as I'd liked, but it was important to me to do it. It was the completion of a full circle. And it gave me so much joy to be able to announce Melichan as the winner of drama, considering how surprised she was to have even gotten in. It's reactions like those which warm my dark heart with the light of a thousand suns. :)

Anyway, in summary, this year's objective was "shock and awe". I wanted to astound everyone with the quantity and quality of AMV Events at AX this year. Everything Vlad and I have heard indicate that it was quite successful, but I'll let you guys be the judge. :)

Wow. Like I said during the masquerade, when I went to my amv first contest in AX2001 and saw Eric Kobet win with Tainted Donuts, I was determined to have a video on the big screen and to experience that glory.

While I've made it on and off in the finalists throughout the years, I was always the bridesmaid and never the bride (closest I came to winning best of show was in 2006 with the original Naruto Ball Z, so you can say I avenged my predcessor).

You can only imagine how great it feels to finally achieve that success after 11 years.

I personally enjoyed the contest much better in the concourse since the attendance was higher over the weekend, the sound was better, there were 3 screens, and a much more responsive crowd.

Most of my predicted winners made it through and I knew it was going to end between Ballad of the Nice Guy and my video. I personally thought Ballad would win because of the response to "Team Edward" (absolute genius! ) so I was a bit shocked when we did the creators tie breaker in the back.

I said this before and I still say the contest is the strongest one we've had since 2003. Not 100% perfect, but leaps and miles beyond previous years. I can't say there were really any obvious *bad* videos and the only flaws were a few videos that relied on effects when they didn't need to and some of the effects videos in AMTV Pro that kinda lacked substance aside from the effects. Other than those, it was an extremely solid contest.

This is where my amv saga ends and I'm extremely happy to have been blessed with multiple opportunities over the years to compete with and get to befriend quite a lot of you. Even though I won't be making anymore new videos for contests, I'll still be sticking around and watching you guys as a member of the crowd now.

Everyone should feel proud to have been part of such a great contest and I'm glad to end things on the highest note possible.

Thanks again, everyone.

P.S. To the 2 douchebags behind me who were ripping on my video on Friday Night.

Seems like except for a few technical things, all went well and people are happy with the results. Can't ask for much better than that! Congratulations to the winners, and in particular Castor for pulling off such a grand finale...and of course showing up those complainers in the row behind you!!

Well thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think of Urusei Yatsura as a hidden gem amoung all those older shows, I really liked the show since the first time I saw it and had to get it all (sadly, it's out of print now).

I will say I wasn't actually referencing to that video, I had two videos in comedy which I consider to be at a lower standard than my usual goal for comedy videos.

Glad to hear things went well.

I hope all the AMV winners ran out and took advantage of those big X-Games ramps to celebrate.

Castor Troy,

I want to say congrats and thank you again - it was really nice of you to split the 6TB hard drive with me. You didn't have to do that and it took me by surprise when you handed me that other hard drive.
Definitely an epic showdown competing with you, and I wish you luck in Hollywood! Since we're both in the industry, maybe we'll compete again at the Oscars one day. ;)

Looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future! Congrats again!

Thanks!

The reaction to both our videos was equally awesome, so I figured you also deserved something to make more awesome videos in the future.

Our epic battles will continue into the oscars and beyond!
