If mike lee's behind this, I'd have assumed everything was now in HD as well.

It's a fantastic change for the rest of the video rooms. From what I understand, they will all be blu-ray ready now (albeit most video rooms will still have a 4:3 screen). It ONLY sucks for us and for Fan Parodies because a lot of us are so conditioned to sending in letterboxed content, it's become part of our workflow. I'm all for the changeover, I just wish they let me know 5 months ago when the rules went up for review, or put it off until 2013. I actually have to encode everything TWICE because the winners will be played in a different room (during Iron Editor) on a 4:3 screen since this isn't a GLOBAL change.

Deadline: Your submission must have finished uploading by 1:00 AM EST, Monday June 11, 2012. Entries received late will not be accepted into the Otakon 2012 AMV contest, nor will they be considered candidates for the AMV overflow screenings.

So, would a 720x480 MPEG2 flagged as 16:9 work? Or would you prefer a lossless AVI at 848x480, or something else?

720x480 mpeg2 flagged as 16:9 is how we are running the contest. If you know how to do this properly, then by all means encode ahoy. Otherwise, my usual "gimme what you got to give" approach still applies.
