Seriously, if there's that many probably why don't more people start voting with their feet?

I really dislike the use of the applause meter. In 2000, the cheering for two videos was so close they had to have the audience re-cheer twice before deciding on a victor. Sorry, but people were getting tired of cheering at that point.

Now if they were doing an audience award based on the cheer-o-meter and the rest were staff/judge votes or ballots, that would be okay.

Do any other AMV contests out there use an applause meter?

PErsonally I never noticed the decrease in the number of cheers but I do agree that the "favoritism" really skews the vote. Sometimes horrible videos can skate by because they used soemthing popular and people will cheer for it.

Also, cheering is more of a means of saying how muich you liked a video as opposed to considering it inr elation to the other videos. While the perspective is a fair judging system, with an applause meter and dealing with favoritism this is still a problem.

However, since it only makes up 1/4 of the final vote I don't think it makes enough of a difference in the end; especially given teh circumstances.

None that I know of...

I hate to think this is the only solution.. Well, it is AX's contest so they can choose it how they want, however, I think it's a step backwards from the ballot voting they had
