As a general rule, there are NEVER more in Comedy or Trailer categories. At ANY contest. :P

In terms of there being only five Ouran and four Death Note AMVs entered, I doubt it's because the titles are unpopular. Quite the contrary if the cosplayers are any indicator. Sheesh, the DN people are almost outnumbering the Narutards this year.

Anyway, I think we may have a field of ultra-conscious creators who understand that using a popular title could be the death knell for their effort in this contest. The last thing any of us want to do is incite a reaction of, "Oh crap, not another *insert title here* video." It also helps to expose people to new or less well-known titles.

Well, it's good as long as the viewers don't get any ideas to BitTorrent or whatever. :nono: I mean there is a dealer room and someone out there has that anime...

*Is a fading Narutard myself :P * Cosplay popularity changes every year so I dunno, but last year I heard the Naruto cosplay photoshoot was a mob and Death note definitely wasn't so much. I'll be surprised to notice a stark difference this year.

There were a few Naruto vids this year, but nothing like you see on you.tube in terms of numbers. I do like the show (or did) but I have a hard time being motivated to make a video for it nowadays anyway (though you'll get many more views and/or downloads going that route I find). The videos I have coming up next are definitely a far cry from Naruto though, but one has the potential to be too popular for its own good, which is why I'll get my video for it out of the way now :-P. Strike while he iron is hot.

As for torrenting, unless the show is extremely popular, it's usually hard to get a hold of anyway, so getting some Sunday deals or ebay or something is usually the way I try going (I got Pretear for a steal last year). And you also more or less will have extremely good quality when the video is complete.

Without getting too specific, did the videos seem to have more footage from newer shows (within the last 7-8 years or so), did the videos have footage from much older shows, or was there a nice balance of old and new stuff?

Apparently there was no hot, new, overhyped anime this year so it seems that most creators actually came up with a concept rather than just pairing the unreasonably popular show-of-the-year with an overplayed-on-every-radio-station CD single of the moment.
HAI GUYZ WANNA SEE MY NARUTO/MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE ACTION VID?

:P

Actually, I do count Cowboy Bebop TV/Movie in the same show. They are all in the same continuity, after all. The fact that Cowboy Bebop is just about 10 years old has no bearing. It doesn't have to be a popular show. Like I said, Rose of Versailles was made a long time ago, and it still had an influx one year.

Cowboy Bebop is my personal favorite show. I remember when it first started airing on Adult Swim...man I feel old now.

I'd say it was a nice balance.

I actually preferred Outlaw Star (and remember watching that on Toonami :P ) . It was more fun, but I appreciate Bebop for what it is. Break out our canes. That has me thinking now that that I'd like to see a good OS video. There's a lot that could be done with it.

RARARA Ya kids with yer Narutos (is that a cereal?) an' yer laundry detergents, an yer satanic notebooks. Back in mah day, we did everything with VHS tapes. Ya had to buy the dubbed ones to make amvs without subtitles. Now wit yer newfangled pee cees, and fruit computers, ya just add a few clicks and ya have it done. Why, we had to do our editing in the snow! With broken sticks!
