A-M-V.org Recommended Ruleset for Coordinators

Post by Kireblue » Thu Aug 23, 2018 2:11 pm

What are the A-M-V.org CONGRSS Rules?
The CONGRSS Rules are a set of standards and guidelines used in a vast majority of AMV Competitions. Although every contest has its own unique set of rules, these are the ones that are generally shared by most, and entrants typically expect.

Why did I make this list?
I noticed that the more rules and lines of text a competition has, the more people skim through them (or not read them at all). And the more people skim through rules, the more important details they miss. So I made this list in order to allow contest coordinators to simply add a rule stating that "All submitted entries must comply with the the Basic & Auxiliary guidelines outlined in the A-M-V.org CONGRSS Rules". This will allow them to cover an entire series of rules with a just single line of text, and spend more time outlining the details that make their specific contest unique. This will also provide new coordinators with a "starter set" of rules that they can expand on.

What if the CONGRSS Rules contradicts another rule?
In the case of contradictions between the CONGRSS rules and the full rule-set of a specific competition, you should always refer and adhere to the latter. If you still have questions regarding compliance to any of these rules, please contact the coordinator for that specific contest.

How do I add these rules to the Competition I run?
You can add these rules to your post by copy and pasting any of the following text to your rules post.

Contest General Rule-Set Starter
PDF Version

  • Basic Rules & Guidelines

    Video & Audio Quality
  1. Videos should not contain watermarks, TV logos, studio bumpers, credits, or references to other events/ competitions that are either not directly related to the video content, or unnecessary for the video concept. Videos should also not contain subtitles that were not created by the editor.
  2. Entries should be of reasonable video and audio quality. Videos that have a resolution and frame rate of less than 480p and 23.976fps may be disqualified. Videos should also meet whatever additional technical requirements are outlined by the specific competition.

    Participation & Plagiarism
  3. Videos should consist of clips edited solely by the entrant(s) or group listed on the entry form. Entries found to have been plagiarized from other Fandom Music Videos may result in disqualification and/or banishment from future events.
  4. In the case of collabs, MEPs, or videos edited by multiple people, each participant or group name must be listed on the submission form. If the submission form doesn’t allow multiple editors to be listed, or if you forgot to include someone, please contact the contest coordinator to have the information added.

    Submission Links/ URLs
  5. If the submission form allows videos to be sent via URLs, you must provide a download link. Services like Google Drive and Dropbox are free, easy to use, and highly recommended, but please ensure that the URL you provide is a “shared” or “public” link. If your AMV is available for local download on A-M-V.org, you also have the option of instead providing a link to its video information page. The downloaded video should also comply with the previously stated rules about bumpers and credits. YouTube or ”streaming only” links will not be accepted.

    Attendance
  6. Attendance to a convention is not required to enter its competition, and will not improve your odds of winning or making finals.

    Auxiliary Rules & Guidelines

    Content Standards
  7. Videos should not contain excessive violence, language, or content that would either place it above a PG13 rating or is unsuitable for a general audience. This rule will be enforced on a case-by-case and contest-by-contest basis.
  8. Videos that do not adhere to a PG13 rating may be excluded from the contest or “age-gated” during screenings.
  9. Videos should also refrain from having content that is derogatory, demeaning, or designed to insult others on the basis of race, gender, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation.

    Genres
  10. With the exception of Trailers and Parodies, your audio should be primarily music, and not contain excessive narration or dialog.
  11. Videos modeled after AMV Hell and similarly styled "blipvert" or “Micro-Vid Reel” formats are generally not allowed in the main competition.

    Freshness
  12. Videos that have been submitted to a specific contest in previous years are typically not allowed to be submitted to that specific competition a 2nd time.
  13. Videos that premiered more than a full year prior to contest submission deadlines are typically discouraged and may be either disqualified or ineligible to win specific awards/ make finals. Please refer to the full rules for each competition for additional stipulations regarding submission freshness.
If you have questions regarding compliance with any of these rules, please refer to the full contest rules for each competition for further information. If you are still unsure, please contact the coordinator for that specific contest.
