Yep you heard that right.

For over three months my crew member SSJ4 Nightmare 420 has been sayiing "We should have a tourny just for new amv makers so they can strut their stuff." Well you know what, I thought it was a fantastic idea. I think that the pro's have as much to learn from new vid creators as new creators do from the pro's.

So much so, that after much talk with my J&P staff, we decided to go ahead and DO just that.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Must have been a vid creator for under 1 year

Must have no greater then five vids currently out in circulation

Must be a member of www.animemusicvideos.org

RULES & REGULATIONS

1 VIDEO PER CONTESTANT, NO MORE, NO LESS.

NO STOLEN VIDS, HENTAI MATERIAL, YAIO, OR NON ANIME MUSIC VIDEOS <LIVE ACTION, VIDEO GAME, OR TV SHOW.> ALL VIDS MUST USE ANIME FOOTAGE. ALSO NO "EXCESSIVE GRAPHIC VIOLENCE" MEANING ANYTHING THAT JUDGES DUB AS GRAPHIC VIOLENCE.

NO VIDS WITH MUSIC THAT HAS EXPLICIT PROFANITY

NO PAST TOURNAMENT ENTRY OR ENTRY INTO AN CONVENTION.

ALL VIDS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE DEADLINE OF JULY 23, 2004 2AM EASTERN STANDARD TIME USA..

VIDEOS CAN BE IN ANY FORMAT RANGING FROM WMV, RMA, MPEG, AVI, MOV, OGG

JUDGING PROCEDEURE

VIDS WILL BE JUDGED ON A FIVE DAY PERIOD IN FIVE CATEGORIES. BEGINNING JULY 24 - 29 2004

DIRECTION - plot of the vid

TIMING - timing of the vid to the music

QUALITY - the overall display quality to the vid.

MUSIC - the music used for the vid

CREATIVITY - how innovative the vid is in terms of special effects and transitions.

Besdies I fail to see how being a member of the org and/or having your own website has anything at all to do with you being a Pro or not. Not to mention it will probably eliminate your entire target audience, since anyone seeing these forums is mostlikely a memebr of the site.

If ALL of the criteria fits you, you are considered a Pro and therefore cannot enter. You can be a member of www.animemusicvideos.org just you have to be a Newbie! We don't want Pro's in this contest. This is a contest only for noobs.

Unfortunately, Mr. Caldwell has been around for a great deal longer then I have and thats at least six years. So no he wouldn't be allowed to enter

But Dongstar can I discussed this issue a few minutes ago with one of the organizers, Mystic Kakorot 420, and we have agreed that entry into 1 contest does not disqualify you.

I wil firmly state that if all the criteria matches up with the definition of the word "Pro." Then that vid will not be allowed to enter. If one or two things can be associated with the contestant "aka winning 1 contest." It does not disqualify them. Dongstar can enter the Noob Challenge.

I said ALL of the criteria, not some. The purpose of this exercise is to erase the stigma assoicated with the word "noob." For I believe there are some Newbie AMV Creators who are going to be SuperStars. I think Dong is well on his way to becoming one of them. As are a lot of new vid creators like Majin Koji for instance.

When we decided to go ahead with this contest, it was to see the Underdog rise to greatness. I think that we can show that Newbies can teach us as a community a lot, if we are to listen to them and give them the opportunity to express what it is they want to convey.

You desperately need to redefine your definition of 'pro'. Looking at the last two <a href="http://www.amv-contest-lists.org/year20 ... ontests</a> that there's info on only two of the winners match all of your qualifications for being a pro, and maybe not even those two would be disqualified depending on how you define 'Accolade' and 'Fandom'. Somehow I doubt you want lots of people who haven't been around for years but have made contest winning videos fighting it out in your noob tourny.

I think you're missing the point. I'm not arguing because I think I should be allowed to enter, I'm arguing because I think I SHOULDN'T be allowed to enter and under your current rules I am. While I'm far from a pro I am not a newbie either and from what I can tell neither are most of the active members on the forums. There are VERY few people who fit all of your criteria and most of us who don't have no business entering a noob competition. Hell, as has already been pointed out, even Kevin Caldwell qualifies for this contest because he doesn't have an org login or his own homepage (or more than 10 videos that I know of, although I might be wrong on that one). I repeat, you desperately need to redefine your definition of 'pro'.
