Anime VegasCon 2005 AMV/FanVideo Contest Announcement!

Post by taiki » Mon Jun 06, 2005 4:05 pm

Deadline has long past! See you at the con!

---

I'd like to announce the AnimeVegas 2005 AMV/FanVideo Contest! AnimeVegasCon is going to take place in Cashman Center in Las Vegas on October 28-30th, 2005. Deadline for videos is going to be Ocotober 20th.

Website: http://www.animevegas.com/

Submission: Videos can be submitted either in DVD, VHS, or in some sort of digital video format, such as DivX, MPEG, etc. Videos will also be accepted in LaserDisc, SelectaVision or whatever weird format you want to submit it in if you can provide proper playback equipment atleast 10 days before the event so I can encode the video.

All submissions WILL BE converted to MPEG2 format for use on DVDs. All submissions will also be reformatted to a 4:3 aspect ratio.

ANY VIDEOS CONTAINING PORNOGRAPHIC OR EXCESSIVELY VIOLENT VIDEO FOOTAGE THAT IS DEEMED OFFENSIVE OR NOT USED IN AN ARTISTIC MANNER WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

All video submissions can be made here as a reply or a private message or email to me, amv at animevegas.com.

Please include a link to the video, any contact information, if you're going to be at the con, and any notes that I might need such as using a weird but cool codec, or whatever, as well as which of the three categories(Action, Drama or Comedy) the video will be submitted in as. Again, any entries can be made either here, or via email. (amv at animevegas.com)

Categories: There will be three categories of videos to submit, Action, Comedic and Dramatic. As well, there will be a Best of Show award given.

Judging: The actual judging will be based on rank. Each judge will rank the top five videos in each category and each video will get 1 point per rank per judge it recieves. Best of Show video will be discussed among the judges and can not win any of the 3 other categories.

Judges: I also need judges who can BE at the event. Apply at the email address above( amv at animevegas.com, if you're too lazy to look up) with any experience and comments you may have.

Winners of each will recieve a plaque stating the award of 1st placement in the contest, best overall will recieve a trophy for victory.*

Any questions about the con itself should be answered at the website(listed above at http://www.animevegas.com/), any contest specific questions, rules loopholes, problems, etc, can be taken up here or email(amv at animevegas.com).

Good luck!

* Previously, an undisclosed gift certificate prize was mentioned, however, noting that several other events do not offer prizes, it felt innapropriate to offer any sort of financial eimbursement.

Sorry to bump, the prizes are still TBA. Most likely DVDs/DVD sets and hopefully software.

Did I miss anything?

I'll probably enter, but October is a ways away, so I'll wait and this video here might get done in time.

Argh.

Time to talk to my conhead.

Although pushing it back to Oct 1. might be sane.

I'm not going to be running it, I'm not sure who is.

Although my advice otherwise would be to to submit it in MPEG-2 format, rather than WMV format.

-edit- I'd hate to be a tard, but I'm still running it. I'm still needing entries. :)

(the guy that wanted to do it for me instead had absolutely no experience... >,<)

-edit again-

The main post has been editted with new, and hopefully, nearly final rules.

Categories: There will be four categories of videos to submit. Only TWO will be judged. The third category is going to be an unjudged AMV exhibition.

The three judged categories will be Action, Comedic and Dramatic, each will be judged according to the other judges own criteria. I feel that having a set specific criteria to judge against is too restrictive for something that's an art form. ...
So are there four categories, and of those only three are judged categories, and the fourth one is an unjudged AMV exhibition? So if we wanted to submit something for judging AND also for exhibition, we should submit two copies of it marked as such? Or if only for exhibition?
"Didn't I say something clever earlier?"
"Dunno, I was probably asleep when you said it."

Thanks for pointing this out ><;;;

I'll fix it in a second. I was really rushed to get something else right.

it should read three, not four.

OK, Finalized the rules. Should've had this done 6 months ago.
