Bakuretsucon Unofficial Results

Post by dokool » Sun Oct 23, 2005 7:55 am

Typing this from our hotel room - I believe Adam may stop by and post the official results along with runners-up, so let's call this the unoffiical tally.

Best Drama - I Am Fullmetal - Brakus

Best Action - Beg4Life - Khan Bui

Best Fun/Upbeat/Etc - AMV no Baka - Mr. Panda

Best in Show - AMV no Baka - Mr. Panda

My personal opinions:

Drama - The fangirl vote robbed LantisEscudo of Best Drama for his wonderfully concieved and timed Ad Caelum - instead they voted for a video that was neither dramatic, nor (as my club treasurer has been reminding me ever since the contest) canonically correct. Also notable was a Haibane Renmei video that, were it not for a couple cheesy transitions, would have had my vote. Plus rogue intellect productions made a Bebop vid with an interesting framing concept.

Action - Absolutely nothing here. This category featured three entries by the same person - all using Naruto footage to Linkin Park (two of them being the same song) with subtitles. Khanh's video was the only solid one in Action (perhaps along with Brakus' Ominae will Die Another Day) but is no less deserving of his win because of it. That video is an epilepsy-causing gem and I'm surprised so few people have downloaded it.

Comedy - A couple things I've seen before (my Body Movin' vid, Justin's Taijitsu for Dummies), two of Roll the Stampede's good comedies (Digi Charat Titans and Outlawz of the Carribean), and Mr. Panda's 'AMV no Baka', an AMV Hell-style video that took it all. Note my total lack of surprise.

I'll edit this with the full ballot when I'm back at home and not typing in a darkened hotel room. Overall it was a fun little contest that NEEDS MORE SUBMISSIONS, so more people should submit to BK next year. Kudos to Adam for running a good contest, the other editors for their entries, and to Bakuretsucon for a fun weekend.

Hahaha... *holds on tightly to his AMV no Baka copy*

I guess these are just some of the perks of being AMV coordinator... Exclusive advance screenings!

Congrats to all!

How many videos were in the drama catagory?

By the looks of it, one.

Wow. I looked at the video you pointed to, and it is really nicely done. It sits very pretty. I *might* have voted for it, but of course I'd have to have seen the other videos as well.
instead they voted for a video that was neither dramatic, nor (as my club treasurer has been reminding me ever since the contest) canonically correct.
Who said it *had* to be canonically correct to begin with? I told my own story with the help of the lyrics.

I will be honest to God truthful: I didn't expect to win with that video. I took a popular (and personal favorite) anime series and an uplifting song and ran with it. Because of that I knew I might get the fangirl/fanboy vote, but honestly I didn't expect it to win. What an unexpected surprise for my weekend, at least.

Thanks for the honest opinions, and congratulations to the participants. :)

I was hoping for the Digi Charat video (I've seen Body Movin' at three or fours cons this year, sorry dude :p) Not to ruffle any feathers (well maybe a few), but I found 'AMV no Baka' to be more an AMV-Hell ripoff right down to the transitions, usage of 'Sugar, A Little Snow Fairy' and the promotion of a sequel. I'm so glad to see originality in videos these days. It warms my heart to know people can creat something new instead of merely imitating, but whatever, that's just my opinion

Of course its a rip off everyone knows that Zarzrax has the copyrights to any transition that resembles the changing of a tv channel. I mean he invented that shit. Noone should ever be allowed to use that kind of transition ever again in life. And having a preview for the sequel that he plans to do, yeah right what the hell was he thinking. Somebodies gonna sue his ass outright.
Whats that you say, you have an amv with more than one song and anime, how dare you! I mean everyone knows that once someone does something noone can ever do it ever again. That would just be uncalled for.
Mr. Panda shame on you and everyone like you. You are all going to Hell
May GOd have mercy on your soul.
