Regarding the fee:
First in order to give out prizes we have to charge a fee. If you feel that it is better to compete just for the glory and everyone entering agrees with you then I will mention it to the director and maybe next year we won't have to give out prizes.
That being said we move on to your second comment. We do not charge people to watch the anime rooms or the video rooms so we are not in violation of public exhibition copyright infringement. In the event there are any gray areas we do have a blanket protection license.
Regarding the political statement rule: Sometimes people find it entertaining to include a personal agenda in things like songs or movies. If you are creative enough to come up with something to insert into this contest you will not be allowed to enter again.
On a nicer note if you want to see any particular anime at DragonCon PM me and I'll try to fit it into the schedule.

I know Anime Mid Atlantic had a lot of donations from one of there sponsors plus last year they gave dvd's to the finalist who should up at the convention just to show there appreciation. Only 4 creators in the finals showed up last year.Infinity Squared wrote:Shouldn't prizes be donated by sponsors?

That is the way I intrepret the rules. So it is $7 per entry, so if I enter three I would have to give you guys $21
This is our first year with the contest. I am asking the director about the sponsors and I will let you know when I find out. This may be one of those situations where we have to prove ourselves and the popularity of the contest before we can get backing. Just don't quote me on that.Shouldn't prizes be donated by sponsors?
Rest assured we are not the only contest out there that charges. Believe me I researched a lot of contests.

I haven't seen any other contest charged a direct fee for the contest, but I've seen contest that require you to register for the convention to enter the contest whether you are going or not. I prefer this way because instead of having to pay $30-$40 to enter a contest. I rather pay a small fee to enter.Nimthiriel wrote:That is the way I intrepret the rules. So it is $7 per entry, so if I enter three I would have to give you guys $21

take note in the rules; in addition to interpreting something as a political statement that they're not interested in overtly sexual content rated pg-13.
Tho i'm sure they'll have no problem with heavy ultraviolence beyond pg-13 instead...
