AC-Cubed 2006 AMV Contest

AC-Cubed, Ottawa's Anime Convention, has finally put up the rules and
entry form (a simple RTF file) for the 2006 AMV contest. Please be
sure to read them carefully, as they're more stringent than they were
last year.

Deadline: October 22, 2006

There's only a month left until the deadline, so if you want to create
any new videos specifically for us, you might want to get started now.

No entry can win more than one category, except for the Grand Prize winner.

The award categories will be Most Original, Best Composition, Best Technical and Grand Prize. Other award categories may be devised at a later date.

Y'know, that rule never made sense to me. When the categories are based as original, composition and technical, and not by genre, isn't it assumed that the grand prize winner would be strong in each of those categories?

[And I will of course be entering with something, hopefully the new video I've been working on.]

Those are the categories the last person who ran this contest used last year, and it worked out will for him. Besides, this rewards people whose videos stand out the most in those categories specifically, while Grand Prize rewards the one that is consistently strongest all along the board. If I find that this method doesn't work for me and I decide to run the contest again in 2007, then I'll change them.

Hmm, I think it kinda makes sense, so if someone enters an AMV that turns out to be miles above the rest in all levels, they dont' get every award. Not that I think that could happen, but hypothetically.

Anyways, I'm hoping to finish of my new amv to enter as well. Really looking forward to this con!

but yeah I'm definately excited I'll get to meet the like 3 people i couldn't see at AWA ;_;

I wonder, Is there anyway i could get a live action video played (as a special tribute?)

now to decide what video to enter ... hmmm...

It would have to be exhibition/non-competing due to the 75% anime rule, and would only be played if time permits (i.e. not enough entries to fill a two-hour slot). Feel free to enter it, but please note that it's exhibition/non-competing on the entry form RTF somewhere (that will most likely be added for next year's contest).

Well, I submitted, and although one of mine will almost certainly be disqualified, I figured I'd attempt to submit it anyways, on the outside chance it was approved. Today's the deadline btw for people not paying attention O_o

Ooh, so does this mean that this year there will actually be a proper timeslot to showcase the majority, if not all videos entered? Because I recall last year was quite the bummer, with a little less than 30 mins to the showing, and the only videos shown were those that won or were runner ups.

After several failed ftp attempts, my video has been submitted

Hopefully the contest will run longer this year ^^

Didn't enter anything due to lack of contest-able content (and this year's RPBP video already won something), but I'll definitely be in attendance and watching the contest very carefully.

I was kinda disappointed with last year's actually. Mainly for two reasons -
1) the sound left a lot to be desired. I could often not hear the video over the audience talking. Compare that to the room where they played Advent Children (where the sound system was unneccesarily loud); 2) One video winning ALL categories. As much as it may have been deserving, I think it's bad taste to have a 'winner take all'. Strongly suggest keeping the 'overall' video restricted to the Overall category.

To think, I hadn't seen another AMV editor since last year's AC3. Strange - I guess I'm just THAT reclusive
