Yes.OropherZero wrote:Nice set of rules this year. Are animes unlicensed in Australia allowed?
Technically no, though that's what I'm going to be basing it on. Take it as a recommendation rather than a rule, I'm not fond of it but I had to put it in there. If there are no visible subs, divx logos etc, I'm not going worry. And "fansubs/downloaded footage" does this only apply to subtitles being present in an AMV? Because there are various high quality raws available these days...

And to be really honest, you know the general rule that we should be buying the DVDs as a contribution for obvious reasons. If you already have the DVDs and was also able to land your hands on some good quality raws you've downloaded from a P2P client then I wouldn't think there is much problem. The rule is there only to give people a push. I'm sure it's blatantly obvious that these things are not 100% possible to police.Bloodnok wrote:Technically no, though that's what I'm going to be basing it on. Say, how do you define 'international norms'. It sounds too obscure to extract anything productive. If you could define what you mean then it would be great because it could even help progress this competition!Lockstock wrote:Good to see some changes from last year's horrible rule set, however it still lacks the consistency with international norms required to make it a worthwhile competition for the Australian AMV community, let alone the international community.
Better luck next year I guess...
And keep in mind that this competition is operated differently and as close to/on par with national law. Blame OFLC for our less than consistent rules and lack of international norms. Other competitions in Australia doesn't consider copyright infringement and breach of intellectual property as a concern but if any corporates decided to act up; not only the operators of these competitions get sued but also the editors of submitted entries. Especially now, how Madman Entertainment is owned by Funtastic Limited.
This competition is operated in the interest of not just the coordinators but our main priority is in the interest of our entrants themselves.
This is probably why we seem more than unique in our constructs but trust me, if everything is up to us, this competition will have rules similar to any other competition in this country in terms of standard denotations.
Binary thinking or tunnel vision doesn't get us anywhere.
