Well, here we are again. Apparently, nobody has allowed the AMVs to rest silently in their graves and now they have come back as zombies to devour our last remaining brain cells. Well, maybe not really, but it sounded kind of cool, right? Anyhow.
Last year, many participated in a worst of the worst head to head AMV battle. Ok, it wasn’t that big, but it has generated a lot more response than anyone thought it might. So, I have to bring about my own entry in the “Done To Death” category. SEQUELS!!
Whether or not people like the original some people get into a concept they just can’t contain into one video, they have to make a series.
For those of you new to the concept of “Done to Death” and for those of you returning, here is the rundown of the rules and a link to the previous video.
Done To Death: An AMV Graveyard.
If you are a veteran, well I’m a little more organized this year, so a few of the rules have changed it might be a good idea to skim over them.
Basically, this is a contest of the worst of the worst, and instead of winners, we are calling the people that triumph in each round “Losers” Now, I know you are already digging through your old files, saying “I’ve got this bagged.” Still, this wouldn’t be a contest if people didn’t have to work for it. This is the time to put you’re creative skills to the test. Just because a concept is "Done to Death" does not mean it is always crappy, just overly played out.
The contest will be broken up into many rounds. Each round will have a set criteria that needs to be met. I will list the details of each category when I put it up.
Believe it or not, this contest might take a little bit of creativity. The point of this is to make fun of all those crappy AMVs on the internet, but they tend to make fun of themselves and believe it or not they are a part of Anime society. Not the most enjoyable part, but a part nonetheless.
The general rules are as follows:
- No pornographic or overly violent images!
If it can’t be on the org, it can’t be in this contest.
This contest will run from May 6th to September 1st .
Release date for the video will be the week of Halloween between the 25th and 31st of October.
Each round will last one week. Starting on Sunday and ending on Saturday. Meaning I must have your video for the previous round before I post the criteria for the next one or it has missed the deadline.
The “losers” will be posted, mid-week or as they are available.
There will be a set panel of judges, myself and two people with no ties to the a-m-v.org community.
If the winner of the previous round responds within a timely manner, their opinion will be counted as well, but due to issues with last year’s contest, judging will not be held off waiting for them.
Special guest judges may also be used in the event a current judge wishes to make their own clip.
Multiple entries are permitted, and if your video fits more than one category, it may be resubmitted if it hasn’t already won.
Each clip should only be long enough to get the point across. I want them under 45 seconds. Unless the round criteria says otherwise. This is primarily a “clip” video contest. Going over the time limit could result in disqualification of your entry.
Winners of each round will get a custom banner made to promote their specific video clip. Unless you’d rather not have people know, then I’ll make a banner with something special for the winner.
Other special prizes may also be awarded as the contest progresses.
At the end of the contest, the winning and most notable videos will be placed into a compilation production, where they may or may not be subject to alteration to fit the style of the overall video.
Please, do not post your videos on the org, or anywhere else if you can avoid it, this is a cry to stop forcing the world to watch this crap.
Be sure to include:
Your username at the org
How you would like to appear in the credits.
Anime used.
Audio used, please include artist when available.
The category you are entering (Cause sometimes it’s hard to tell).
A return e-mail, if it is different than the one you are sending from.
I will send each entry a return e-mail as I personally view the entry. If there are any problems I will let you know. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail within two days, then assume that I did not receive it and send a regular written e-mail, explaining the problem, and I will respond accordingly.
If the attachment is too big for your e-mail account, you can send it with an internet service such as http://www.yousendit.com/
Once again, this contest will begin May 6th and run through September 1st. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
Below I will post the criteria for each week and the results of previous rounds as they become available.
Enter if you dare!
Special Rounds
Ok, now it's time for the major "Hell" based clips. The next few rounds will have a sort of theme encompassing them. If you can figure out the pattern, you may be able to get a head start.
Round 4: The First circle of hell. (Paying Homage)
Dante's first circle of hell is simplistically described as the place for those that did not pay fitting homage to their respective deity.
Here, anime rules and many people like to make videos paying homage to their favorite anime. Still they quite often come up a little short.
The point of this round is to make an AMV 45seconds or less dedicated to your favorite anime. Just make it a bad one.
This can be as easy or as hard as you would like. Feel free to ask any questions.
Good Luck
Previous rounds.
