The 2008 genre challenge
Most of us editors make videos in only one or two genres. So this 'contest' is to expand yourself. If you join then during the year of 2008 you are expected to make one video in each of the categories listed. There's 8 of them so if you don't think you can do 8 videos in a year this really isn't for you then is it? Once you have done a video post it to this thread.
Of note, even some of the editors who cross genres have a style that definately belongs to a single genre. For example someone may make a dance video that is essentially an action video with an upbeat song. The idea isn't to fall back on your standard style and try twisting it to fit different genres but to actually develop new styles. In other words, if people can go 'that looks just like their other videos but with jokes to make it comedy' then you didn't really achieve the goal.
Also since the idea is to stretch beyond your comfort zone I imagine quite a lot of these videos will suck. So when others post their videos here you're going to be expected to give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism to them to help point out how they can improve. None of the just posting '' or 'you suck' like most announcement forum posts are. And yes, this applies to me as well, no flaming for godix in this thread.
There are no prizes other than whatever self satisfaction you may get for challenging yourself. What can I say, I'm a cheap ass bastard and the idea isn't to find the 'best' anyway.
Not everyone has a wide variety of audio available to them. I can provide audio for most of these genres if requested but try to find your own audio first so we can keep piracy to a minimum ok? If you simply must ask for audio do it in a PM, not in the thread.
I'll update the first post to add what categories people have done and link to their video.
So here's the categories and a brief description of what I mean:
Action: If you don't already know what an action video is then there is no way in hell I'll ever be able to make you understand it
Drama (non-romance): I used the orgs categories as a base then combined some to keep the # of videos we make within some sort of reason. So this would cover what the org labels as Drama, Sentimental, Serious, most character profiles, and some horror.
Drama (romance): Should be obvious, love videos. Character profiles of a romantic nature also fit
Dance/Fun: Your basic upbeat video here. Again, try not to crossover genres here. The goal isn't an action video that happens to be to upbeat music.
Other: It's hard to describe and if you really don't know what type of thing 'other' covers then all I can suggest is to go look up the Conet project. Some horror videos also fit in this category.
Comedy/Parody: It can be hard I know but really try to not make it a crossover to another category. A tip for everyone, there's a reason the title is 'comedy/parody' and not 'lipsync'
Trailer: Note that this isn't called the lipsync category either. Also worth paying attention to, when your trailer audio has sounds like doors closing, explosions, gunfire, or whatever it's generally a good idea to show video that matches that sound.
Effects whore: Decoy's technique beats are the perfect example of this. The goal here is to learn how to use lots of effects but in a decent way, not just throw every default effect premiere/AE has on the video.

I may consider taking this up, because I don't know what else would make me do a Dance, Trailer and FX Whore type videos
For the rest, well, you know me...

Count me in. Comedy/Parody, Other, and Effects will be tough for me.

I might consider this, depends if I can think of a good thing to do for the "Other" and "Comedy/Parody",and maybe even the "Trailer" categories. But I really like the idea you have here. Even though 8 AMV's in one year is going to be rather challenging,I still think I'm 100% capable =]
