EXP Con Anime Music Video Contest
October 17-19 2008 in St. Augustine, Florida
To find out more about the con check out http://www.projectexp.org
Time to promote the contest on the org!
The EXP Con Anime Music Vide Contest is an opportunity for everyone, from amateurs to professionals, to showcase their video editing talent! Anime Music Videos or AMV’s for short, are videos composed of anime and/or video game footage, then set to music, creating a fan made music video. There are different categories and levels (from novice to professional) that you can enter into. Make a video geared towards a certain category or just let your imagination run wild leaving it to the judges to discern the category your video belongs in. Videos will be judged by members of EXP Con staff and the Animebelle.com members AMV critique squad.
Categories
Please note that these categories are only examples and suggested guidelines of the categories that may be awarded in the EXP Con Fall 2008 AMV Contest. Actual Categories will be selected by the judges, based on actual entries received. For example, if no action entries are submitted, or only one or two videos that do not accurately reflect the theme of the category, an award for Best Action AMV may not be presented.
The categories are as follows:
Action
Drama
Romance
Comedy
Parody
Technical
Novice
Pro
Remember these are categories of AMV’s, not specific awards. A Best of Show will be given, and more awards may be added at the judges discretion, such as AMV with most Gusto.
Note: “Comedy” refers to comedic AMV’s in all forms, while “Parody” specifically refers to videos of a satirical imitative nature (ie, television commercials, movie trailers, etc.). The Novice Category is open to only editors who have not won a “Best of “ award (Best of Show, Best Comedy, Best Technical, etc.). Honorable Mentions are still allowed under the Novice category , and purely internet contests are not counted as official awards. The “Pro” Category is open only to specific editors that have won an award previously.
Rules
All entries must be received by 12:01 am on Friday, October 3rd 2008 to provide adequate time for judging.

Re: EXP Con 2008 AMV Contest
Did you mean to say "editors" that have won an award previously? Or are you looking for people to send in videos that have already won at cons?EXPConNeverRayne wrote:he “Pro” Category is open only to specific videos that have won an award previously.

Re: EXP Con 2008 AMV Contest
Good catch! Yeah I am pretty sure it is meant to be editors. Other than that, does it look ok to you guys on the org? I am actually quite fond of AMV's and wish to highlight them in the convention.Brad wrote:Did you mean to say "editors" that have won an award previously? As well as the award ceremony, all entries will be screened in the EXP Theater Friday evening. On top of that I am working together with AnimeBelle to try and get a some panels geared towards AMV's planned out. If anyone would like to be a part of that, please contact me through Rayne_Sweat@projectexp.org
Another idea we were throwing around was an AMV editors meet and greet dinner. We could hold it in the cosplay cafe which is a 2500 sq. ft. space, or maybe strike a deal with one of the local resteraunts to keep it affordable. I'd also like to gauge interest in that either for this year or next. What do you guys think?

Well, I just completed the AMV that I wanted to send in. So, you bet your sweet arse I'm gonna send it in. I'll be sure to have those details in to you soon. Also, for the record, the AMV was Higurashi and the only Violent scene in the video is at the end where the guys is beating some girls with a baseball bat. It just shows blood spurting, but doesn't actually show the bodies. Is that considered to graphic?
I don't feel it is too much, and would like a critique to make sure, before I actually go about editing it.
Anyway, I will be submitting one other AMV with it.
Also, is the editor required to be at the con? And when we send in the submissions to the E-mail, do we have to .Rar them?
Thanks.

That should be fine. It probably sounds worse than it is We are more worried about looking out for the hentai aspects of some AMV's.

I am not going to require the editor to actually be at the convention for now. Although I would hope the majority of the editors can attend. We have some pretty nice prices lined up, and are currently looking into trophy types for AMV'ers to have as a memory of their victory!
The two sites that we have been using for AMV submissions work pretty well for any file type. With http://www.yousendit.com you can even include all your amv information in the initial transfer. That being said, you don't have to zip or rar it. Sending it straight is perfectly fine.

So, you are saying that we have to upload them to there and then send you the link to the download in our E-mail submission?
Also, one of the AMV's I am submitting has an overlay of the name of the Video, Song, my name, and the artist's name, in the lower left corner. Just like normal Music videos, then it dissapears after 3-5 seconds. I don't have the project files anymore, so I can't edit it out. The text is rather small and won't interfere with the AMV at all. Does that exempt that video?
Also, the other AMV I am entering, has my Adobe After Effects created credits at the beginning of it. And it is only 10 seconds long, and it's right before the music video. Is that alright? If not, I can take it out, but the amount of re-filtering and converting would take so long...I don't wanna do it again, but if I have to I will. I was just hoping it wouldn't be a problem. I have my submission E-mail filled out already, I'm just clarifying these things before I send.
Thanks.

Basically the way those site work is, you fill out the forms and enter in the email address Rayne_Sweat@projectexp.orgSo, you are saying that we have to upload them to there and then send you the link to the download in our E-mail submission?
After that it uploads the file to their site for a time period of like 7 days, and sends then convention an email with a direct download link. Its fairly straight forward, but if you run into a snag, please don't hesitate to contact me.
It sounds like that should be fine as well. If for some reason there is some problem I will let you know after you send it, as I am not 100% sure in this case. Also, one of the AMV's I am submitting has an overlay of the name of the Video, Song, my name, and the artist's name, in the lower left corner. Again, this should be fine. I don't want to make you go back and re-edit if you don't have to, so i'll follow the same procedure as stated earlier and let you know when I receive the file. Also, the other AMV I am entering, has my Adobe After Effects created credits at the beginning of it. And it is only 10 seconds long, and it's right before the music video. Is that alright? Hope this helps, and thanks for your interest in the EXP Con 2008 AMV contest!

Alright, Gotcha. I'm sending the files to you now through E-mail, and like you said, it should upload them on it's own correct? Anyway, look for an e-mail from an entrant named: Aaron Robert Breault
I hope that I am correct in thinking that I have to attach my files to the E-mail. Is that right?
BTW, both AMV's are for download here on the org as well. If that helps any. Or do they have to be on the site you said? Or are you saying that they will be downloaded from this site, once the E-mail has been sent in with the info?
So, do I need to provide my screen name here in the info so they know who to get it from? Or do I just send it to yousendit and put all the info in there? Sorry about all the questions, I'm just a little confused.

Are you sending them through yousendit.com or transferbigfiles.com? If you try to send it directly to the Email, it probably won't go throughTwilightChrono wrote:Alright, Gotcha. If you goto one of those sites it should be straight forward, although I think you can only upload one file at a time.
If you send me a direct download link we can also do it like that. So if you can link me to the direct download links on animemusicvideos.org I can just download them myself and save you the trouble of sending through yousendit.com or transferbigfiles.com
Hope that helps.
*Edit - You still have to send an email with all the information requested in the rules, if I was to download them directly through the org. You could just send the email with all the information filled out, and provide me with a link to download them from animemusicvideos.org if youd like.
