Zenkaikon 2009 AMV Contest

Post by ReligionX » Thu Aug 06, 2009 6:06 am

I'll be co-running the Zenkaikon 2009 AMV Contest again this year with Katrina. This a standard AMV Contest, allowing footage from Anime, Manga, and Video games that are of Japanese origin. We are accepting up to two AMVs per editor. You may submit as high quality AMVs as you want. Between the time of the posting of the rules, I have upgraded my computer, and I am able to play much higher quality videos. Please note the file size restriction. AMVs will be played from a PC. If you submit a .wmv file, there is a chance it may need to be converted. At AnimeNEXT, .wmv files would not display through the A/V equipment for some unexplained reason.

Please note: The address for mailing submissions may change before the deadline. If you are planning on mailing your submission(s), please e-mail me to check to see that the address has not changed.

After reading that for about the 20th time, that still doesn't make any sense to me. If you believe that you have sent me an e-mail submitting your video, I don't believe that I have received the e-mail. When you do send me an e-mail with your AMV, please explain what you mean. I'm guessing that the title of your AMV contains an invalid file name character.

I'm guessing too. But that's my fault. I just misunderstood the contest rules. Sorry about that! I'm gonna send the e-mail tomorrow.

There's just 1 month left until the deadline. We have more videos in this year than we did at the 1 month mark last year. Keep on sending in your AMVs. I'll be checking the forums and my AMV e-mail more frequently. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

We are accepting digital submissions. We have FTP logins available. If you send your video in by mail, DO NOT REQUIRE A SIGNATURE for your package.

There will be a vastly improved sound system to what was used last year. The room size and video screen size will be the same though. There will be 2 screening this year instead of just 1.

I submitted my videos last night, so one of my videos should be in their database now.

After an overwhelming number of submissions, we have finally created the playlist for the Zenkaikon 2009 AMV Contest. We had an astounding jump from 15 editors to 35 editors submit AMV with a total of 44 AMV submissions. Only 1 AMV had to be disqualified for being too graphically violent. Because there were some AMVs that were clearly of a certain type of genre, and many AMVs that fit into a more vague drama, we had to put some AMVs into genres that were most similar to other AMVs. We will have the following genres:

Action (less plot driven and less serious than drama)
Romantic / Sentimental (romance / lighthearted drama)
Dramatic Action (more plot driven based action )
Dramatic Serious (darker and more serious drama)
Upbeat (cheerful, pleasant, and / or aesthetic)
Comedy / Parody (comedic, parody, or trailers)

The following editors will have one of their AMVs shown during the AMV Contest.
