visual novel recommendations

Ok, so I got interested in visual novels after seeing the fate/stay night anime years ago, got the VN of fate/stay night and thought it was awesome. I still havn't completely finished heaven's feel, i'll get around to it eventually (kind of hoping they release an OVA for it so I can see that first like I did with UBW)

The only other visual novel i've played is princess waltz, was interesting, good story overall, fun combat system, only really issue I had was there was almost no actual choices in the game other than picking which princess to fight with. definitely does not match up to FSN though.

Anyway, so there are a number of translated VN's out there and I'm looking for one that is somewhat on par with FSN if such a thing exists. I only ask that recommendations have English translations. I'm not looking for the one with the best H scenes either, just one with an excellent story and characters.

....... where should I start ..... maybe I will start with the titles I remember right now :

G-senjou no Maou - very nice storyline with some epic moments, good music and what is probably the strongest point - unique characters in anime & visual novel world.

Kazoku Keikaku - I remember I laughed a lot and had fun.

Men at Work! 2 ~Hunter Academy e Youkoso~ - An RPG Visual Novel, there are other RPG ones like Brave Soul, Utawarerumono, or some Rance games but this one is good if you want to check out if you even like this version of VN.

Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative - are considered as one of the best visual novels out there (especially Muv-Luv Alternative that is a sequal to Muv-Luv).

Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo and Sharin no Kuni, Yuukyuu no Shounenshoujo - all I remember was sitting on the edge of my chair from the sheer epicness I felt while playing. I strongly recommend those two.

Tsukihime - there are days when I consider this one better than Fate/stay night.

Kira☆Kira - a comedy visual novel for 90% of the time. And a good one.

Kara no Shoujo - dark, gore and detective work visual novel with a very interesting setting (it takes place in 1956 in Tokyo).

There are a lot of other great ones, of course some that were the source material for anime - Clannad, Kanon.

Hirameki had released some good non-adult ones:

- NitroPlus' Phantom of Inferno - A great story with some of the best CG scenes you'll find. The story was also adapted into two anime features: the OVA Phantom the Animation and the recent TV series Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~;
- KiD's Ai Yori Aoshi Visual Novel, which features two new side-stories to the manga and anime series of the same name;
- KiD's Ever 17: The Out of Infinity, an excellent disaster story married with professional CG work and a story that will continue to shock you even after you work through all of the endings.

These are out of print, but well worth tracking down while you can.

There are also quite a few excellent selections in the Adult VN scene:

- G-Collections & D.O.'s Crescendo is a great one. School drama with excellent character development and story.
- G-Collections & D.O.'s Kana: Little Sister is a must for the serious fan. Critically acclaimed and definitely one of the best stories I've ever read in a visual novel. Not only did this one spawn many sites on kidney disease awareness (the main character's illness), but also two very well made (non-adult) fan continuations of the story that are also recommended downloads: Kana Fanfic Flash and Kana Eternity.
- JAST USA Memorial Collection is a collection of three classic tied-in stories: Runaway City, Three Sisters' Story, and Season of the Sakura. The latter is a very popular one, as it takes various character archetypes from various animes and wraps them into a memorable school drama. This is a must-have collection.
- Pretty much anything from H-Game company CROWD: Tokemeki Check In!, Brave Soul, and the X-Change series, just to name a few.

I played this when I was in Zurich and I have to say, I quite enjoyed it. Though I would rather agree with some of the other suggestions on the thread.

Sure is Tsukihimefagging on that chart.

But otherwise it's quite good.

oooook, a lot of material to work through, which is both good and bad (bad cause I have limited free time, not all of which I spend on my comp, good because I won't be running out of material any time soon).

Think I'll go with Tskihime, seeing as it's another Type moon VN, saw the anime although it wasn't the highest quality production. Are all the series listed above english translated? didn't think there were that many
