The thing is I basically don't, but since WMP automatically uses the Music/Pictures/Video libraries during the random times it would get open (usually for DVD playback and random testing) it would start its indexing and thumbnail generating. With over 140,000 files in those 3 libraries and it's duplicate thumbnails for some reason it got out of hand. You would think it would as easy as going to Manage Libraries and removing those folders from the list. However, removing the library folder in WMP actually removes the library from the system entirely. So to keep those libraries and use WMP occasionally I had to disable the indexing service and make its databases empty and read-only. Personally I use iTunes for music/podcasts since I own an iPhone. If I was rolling a lossless audio collection I'd probably use Foobar, but high bitrate AAC/MP3 is 95% of my library. So even if you don't use WMP but it has been opened from time to time it may be generating a lot of redundant files.
