Basically, anything that falls on the Rock Scale is okay with me. I like bands ranging anywhere from the Backdoor Boys to Iron Maiden, but Country, Classical, Jazz, etc. are all no-nos. The best music is found on the middle of the Rock scale, where Stan Bush and Pat Benatar reside.
Ask me about my secret stash of videos that can't be found anywhere anymore.

classical and classical guitar are also running a close second.

"Alternative metal"? Oh well, different strokes for different folks or something.
If it has synth and hard guitars, I'll probably like it. New Wave from the 80s, I like that, too. I probably like music from so many different genres I can't really put one down as a favorite.
But yeah.

I try to give everything a chance. I mean a year ago, I wasn't listening to hardly any rap, metal, or trance, but I've found things to like about them that I didn't in the past, so now I can listen to them and enjoy them in ways I couldn't before. Still haven't figured out how to enjoy most contemporary country music, or a lot of the slick, polished R&B that gets played on the radio a lot, but maybe in time...
