Cocteau Twins

Post by tutterbutter » Tue May 27, 2003 12:02 pm

Was wondering if there are any Cocteau Twins Fans out there, and if anyone has ever been able to think of a Anime to go with it.. Anyone who knows the Cocteau Twins, Know thier beautiful dreamy music, but with quite obscure and alot of the times, untranslatable lyrics from Liz Fraser.
Im a huge Cocteau Twins fan, i have everything ever published by them, i couldnt live without them.. But even with my anime watching, and thinking.. No song by them has ever struck me to do a AMV too.. The Cocteau Twins Songs Covered By Faye Wong, and Or Done together Are beautiful as well.. those have caught my mind a few times, But with those lyrics it would have to be a more arty, purely music induced AMV.. But if someone has or working on one, let me know.. Cocteau Twins are (in my opinion) The best Band, And make some of the most beautiful music out there, The lead singer Liz Fraser, has granted that angelic voice to Massive Attack, Peter Gabriel, The LOTR soundtrack, and several other bands.. She must be doing something right :) So If Your Into say.. Lush, Kate Bush, etc and need some good music, With Dreamy Guitars, and really into voice vocally for your music taste, Give them a try. The official Site www.cocteautwins.com, has a few sound bites, launch has several of thier music videos.. And a few links on the official site will lead you too.. like at least 25 free mp3 downloads on a Liz Fraser Fan Site.
grumble.. after reading that youd think i worked for them huh..

I'm rathe fond of their first album, and actually the rest of their work up until Heaven or Las Vegas. After that, however, bleh....

Can Understand that, Alot of after Heaven or Las Vegas, They Changed From 4AD to Capitol Records.. Those stuffy guys in suits ya know..who recently told them, We wont release a CT DVD. Cuz thier pockets wouldnt be lined with streaming cash. Although I prefer, the lighter side, The First Album definently was defining and Great. Before they broke up.. Milk And Kisses, I love that Album, but for one reason. I think they new the end was near, thier lives changed, and said Hey lets try this.. They got a chance to explore and create.. Cant knock a band for trying.. heh And after all those years, it was a change. More Studio Produced then Any other album they ever did. But Content Aside, A on a technical aspect, its the clearest, fresh, layered music theyve ever done imo :)) A cure fan on the same aspect says WTF happened Around the Time of Disengration, then Wish, and Wild Mood Swings.. Alot of cure fans I know HATE(especially hate) or LOVE Wild Mood Swings.. But you know, they get old, alot of them going twenty years of doing this.. Gotta expand somehow. Try something different, or it gets tedious for them :) The Whole Mindset "Sorry to disapoint you, but if your a fan, youll always be a fan", and it might be thier way of getting newer fans/generations to give them older bands a try :))
Thanks for the Reply.

Actually, as far as I'm concerned, the Cure sucked after Boys Don't Cry, but I'm a crotchity old punk :)

OMG!!! ANOTHER COCTEAU TWINS FAN!!!! *dies* I own almost all of their albums...and what i don't have, my uncle does (he has everything) As for AMV ideas, i have a ton! i've always wanted to do a video to the Cocteau Twins. ^_^ Especially something from either Treasure, or Victorialand. More specifically, i think if you could find an anime with a lot of flowing scenes, or scenes with a lot of myth or something that tends to go with what i hear...sometimes anyway. when i listen to songs like Aloysius (off of Treasure) i see space, sort of like a romantic type video...O.o geez, it's really hard to describe. or something from like a video with lots of flying and sky scenes in it done to Lazy Calm (Victorialand). i have a ton of ideas, it's just that i haven't seen the perfect anime to go with it yet. if you want, give me an IM (AIM: FuyunoMegami, MSN: darkaquaangel@hotmail.com), maybe then i'd be able to describe my ideas better?

Well theres nothing wrong with that.. Ive got a good friend whose the same way. He has strong Ideas on music, and is picky. :P Its all about what you like. Not much of a punky person here.. And although in highschool, I was deep into that whole Goth Scene. But no way would I label. God what happened to this world. When i was in school.. We were wierdos, bashed and gawked at. I guess around my Senior Year, Manson got huge.. and something happened. All the sudden it was Acceptable, with Garsh Hot Topics.. I really wanted to crawl into a corner and die then ROFL.. These little teenyboppers, Wearing manson shirts, and white faces.. But with no no no freaking Clue who Bauhaus (im using them as a general example) Was.. Not that Im angry. I see people now, I guess im not that old, Im 26, Ive grown up.. But, alot has changed. Disapointing at times. Now Im Married, Had kids, mellowed out, I listen to the same music, And yes, Find myself rolling eyes, at a 15 year old kid, in fishnets, black lipstick, with a Korn, Manson Shirt. Is that Snooty of me? Them Running around in the malls, IM SO GOTH, Im sitting in front of hot topic looking Angry, "Im Goth, Im cool".. I dont know when i was that age, I wasnt in the mall, and Far From Cool.. haha. A Unforgetable Moment for me was passing through the TV a few years back, I stumble on a Orgy Video, Thier cover of New Orders song. AND I see a Girl, around 16, In a Ricki Martin Shirt, on Total Request live, Holding up a sign saying I LOVE JAY FROM ORGY. I honestly Almost peed my pants from Laughter.
Id like to walk up to them all and say Heres a list of some good music. Probably some, Dead Can Dance, This Mortal Coil, Cocteau Twins, Leather Strip, NitzerEbb, Bauhaus, Peter Murphy, Thrill Kill..Definently, Some Pink Dots and tell them Be yourself.

Then Again, Not Knowing How old you are, You Couldve been the one laughing at me in high school, With my Doc Martins, Siouxsie Shirt, Long Skirt and Facial Peircings.. eh? Saying What the hell is that?? hahaha

Cocteau Twins rule.. they have their own unique style..

An appropriate anime for an AMV? Perhaps something surreal... like Rahxephon..
