Oh man, you said it! I'm still kicking myself for having liked this song when I was a little boy. Live and learn, yes? One of my favorite political humorists, P.J. O'Rourke, explains why this song is so crappy thus:TaranT wrote:This one.
"The Band Aid, Live Aid, USA for Africa concerts and records (and videos, posters, T-shirts, lunch buckets, thermos bottles, bath toys, etc.) are supposed to illuminate the plight of the Africans. Note the insights provided by these lyrics:
We are the world (solipsism)
We are the children (average age near forty)
We are the ones to make a brighter day (unproven)
So let's start giving (logical inference supplied without argument)
There's a choice we're making (true as far as it goes)
We're saving our own lives (absurd)
It's true we'll make a better day (see line 2 above)
Just you and me (statistically unlikely)
That's three palpable untruths, two dubious assertions, nine uses of a first-person pronoun, not a single reference to trouble or anyone in it and no facts. The verse contains, literally, neither rhyme nor reason..." He goes on to point out that this song wasn't helping anyone except the "idiot famous" who got "public adulation and a thoroughly unwarranted good opinion of themselves" at the public's expense.
Any number of songs can be annoying, but I agree with O'Rourke: this one did real harm to people. That's got to make it stand out ahead of many others in terms of all-time worst songs.

Most likely Nickleback - Hero. I would have given them my left nut if they wouldn't have played that crap. And no its not because they played it too much on the radio its because they made it.
Second would have to be the cover of Chop Suey by (as you all know) Avril Lavigne. That has to be one of THE WORST songs ever recreated. SOAD made that song a friggin ritual but of course every good song is remade to a crap version.
How many of you knew that in the song Chop Suey, "Why have you forsaken me" is a quote from the bible? Haha I'm Athiest so don't ask me how I remembered. If you think I'm joking its Psalm 22.
