Hi, German guy here!
Maybe I can answer your question.
Rammstein is more successful in the US than here in Germany.
Main issue is the texts - cause they are fucking stupid. Actually most people I know, who listen to Rammstein do only so because they like the sound. Almost everybody finds the lyrics ridiculous.
But as many Americans don't understand German (you lucky bastards ), you don't have any problems with the lyrics.
But why the hell should Rammstein transfer their lyrics into English?
No paticular reason - only thing I can imagine is it was forced by the music industry. Like "Hell, Rammstein sells good in the US, but we heared some poeple complain about not understanding your lyrics, so sing the shit in English to get us some new customers..."
And about switching languages:
It's not really a problem, because we learn English from 5th grade till we finish school. Also most vocalists are naturally good at languages and have no problems at posishing their pronounciation skills till they sound like native English speaker.
English lyrics are very appreciated by both song writers and the music industry in Germany. Mainly because the texts are understood less well by common people, so you mustn't have a good content to get famous, and because it sounds more "international" and "modern" and the music industry has less problems to promote it worldwide.
Singing French would be more of a problem - many Germans don't really get into French, although it is also thaught at schools, but no as intensive as English. Maybe the result of a tradition of insults and prejudices between our nations. You could say Germans don't want to sing French even if they were able to

Pretty much. Although most Americans who've bothered to seek out translations find them pretty silly. In another light, one could say the dramatic camp is part of the fun.Giton wrote:Rammstein is more successful in the US than here in Germany. Main issue is the texts - cause they are fucking stupid. Which type of English speaker? British, American, Canadian, Australian, South African, or even Indian ?Giton wrote:And about switching languages:
