Now that I'm thinking about soundtracks...

Clint Mansell - soundtrack to Pi
Also did the soundtrack to Requiem For A Dream, some of which was used in the Lord of the Rings commercials (Lux Aeterna I believe)
If nothing else, harsh noises get your attention.

Awe here I go.

In the Two Towers promo's a remix of Lux Aeterna by Tim Aste of "Ajax Projection" was used. How it ended up being used is beyond me, but it ended up being pretty big once it was used in the promo's. It was once on his site but he took it off now that Mansell's label is discussing the remix's terms of distrobution. Frankly Tim has had enough of it's popularity for now and is just doing what he likes to do. (making trance/electronica/classical/industrial mixes?)

Frankly I can't give Clint much credit for the remix...since Tim extended the piece from around 2 min to a staggering 6 1/2 minutes. More or less making an entire new song.

I'm still surprised with it's popularity that not very many people really do know who did the remix.

Here's a few that I like that don't seem to have been mentioned:

Telefon Tel Aviv - kind of trance-ish, but mainly just really wierd yet totally chill stuff.

Infected Mushroom - I think they use actual instruments but they do it in a way that totally gives off a trace/techno vibe.

DJ Shadow - I dunno, just always been a big fan of his, especially the "Endtroducing..." album.

DJ Encore & Engelina - Good vocal trance, along the same lines as DJ Sammy & Yanou ft. Do and Ian Van Dahl type stuff.

Kosheen - Again with the vocal trance...

Robert Miles - More trance.. bleh getting tired...

Heh Thats all for now.. brian not functioning too well.

This may not be Techno, but I think that the best band that uses eletronic music is the french duo AIR.

I really dig Beloved (Live from San Francisco), Standing (motion), Honour and Left Behind.

And for fans of VNV Nation there's Apoptygma Berzerk, recommended Kathy's Song (Victoria Mix by VNV Nation), Non-Stop Violence, Fade to Black (the Metallica cover) and Zeromancer, which I haven't gotten into too much.

I'm also digging Telepopmusic a lot right now. And Echoing Green...man, I saw them in concert with a couple ska bands in like 1996/7. The curse of the Christian music industry, burying good bands from obscure genres with the flavor of the minute.

The Prodigy [Smack My Bitch Up, Mindfields, Poison]
The Crystal Method [Roll it Up, Busy Child, The Name of the Game]
New Order [Confusion aka the song from Blade]
Paul Oakenfold [Planet Rock, Dread Rock]
Fluke [Absurd, Zion]
Moby [Go, South Side feat Gwen Stefani, Bodyrock]
Telepop Musique [Breathe]

I hope you like bass, because most of this stuff is fucking heavy on it. ;D
