Well, First off let me say I am a punk fan, fav. bands include Bad religion, Dead Kennedys, Propaghandi.... but when I see someone completely renounce an entire genre of music, I get kind of irratated.
All musical genre's comes with good and bad selections, and a fan base for both. as for Rap music, I don't tend to listen to it myself, but I'm not going to say All rap sucks, simply because I heard a lame rap song on MTV. I haven't heard all rap so I'm in no position to make that claim, and besides what happened to rap music in the last few years is the same thing that happened to punk music a few years earlier.
Rap music in the early eighties, had some definite bite and rellavance to it, people like public enemy, was an underground youthful group who expressed their feelings of dissatisfaction of the status quo, and were trying to rebel against the system they felt was supressing them, much like punk did it 's early days.
but Rap became popular, and sombody figured they could make money off of it if they toned it down and marketed it to a more mass audiance (50 cent, Ja Rule Etc.... ) The same thing happened to rock music, thats why we now have a flood of bands like Simple plan, Yellow Card, singing in a manner that lacks the feelings of anger and social reform that early punk was founded on. If people only looked at Pop-Punk, at the moment, they'd probably jump to a conclusion around the lines of (Aww they just play simple guitar chords and have no talent and just whine about their girlfreinds) but if you still can find good music coming from both genres, it just takes some digging...great deals of digging in some cases.
I guess my point is, think before you try and dismiss Entire genre's of music, if you preferr not to listen to it that's fine, but try not to become an elitist music snob refusing to listen to something that might be very good, simply because it falls in a certian catagory.

Try listening to artists besides 50 Cent and w/e other garbage they play on MTV before you try to generalize a type of music.Undertow wrote:Rap in my opinion is some guy talking crap into a mic, and some other guy making noice on a computer, to back it up, that can be trumped by a mentally handicapped 4 year old.JOE_Greezy wrote: You have a problem with rap?
There's no time to discriminate - hate every motherfucker that's in your way
