but I listen to a lot of classic rock, in fact it's what i "grew up" listening to when i was in grade 5 i loved queen, when i got to grade 6 and 7 i listened to rush for about two years straight. I've also been listening to my dads pinkfloyd cd's for a lon gtime too. I've always listened to the classic rock station in my area. So for me, i'm way more familiar with classic rock then most new music.

by the way sorry if the picture dosn't work ... it worked fin in the preview.

I wouldn't say a fan per se, but it's probably 1/4 of the music I listen to. I'm not even going to list which because I don't feel like a My Favorites Are More 1337 Than Yours fight, but Pink Floyd is in there.

Oh, I'm definitly a fan. I may be young, but there are few things better in my mind then some of the great bands who were around 10 or 20 years before I was born.

BTW, Robert Fripp most definitly should win an award, but not from the music industry. I say all Krim fans around the world unite, and create an award proclaiming him the God of Rock. Well, maybe Demi-God, he's a humble man.

Hehe, that would probably piss him off a lot.

He has a very Gurdjieffian tendency of making himself look as negative or insignificant as possible to others. The best award for the guy - tell everyone to cut the crap and stop photographing and bootlegging his shows. His journals have been getting cryptic lately, and even I'm starting to question his promised land of 'KC until 2010'. But, with him, you never know.

Back to topic - well, I'm guessing you got your response
:)

Personally, I've been raised on classical music, but classical Rock came in around age 12 for me (Beatles, Queen, Zep, a few others...), which helped me form some taste in music. Then around 16-17 I got slapped in the face with the wonder of prog and especially KC, and here I am at almost 20... The big move now - discovering 'what else is new?'. I'm trying to get into modern prog metal. Hasn't happened yet.

Well, I was being a bit sarcastic with that. While I haven't yet read enough about him to get the indepth picture on that tendancy of his, its pretty easy to figure out just by watching how he acts in concert. Hell, the guy might as well be invisible. Ah well, not everyone enjoys the spotlight I suppose. Well, regardless of what he may think, the day he dies/retires will be a very, very dark day for music...

I love classic rock, but Floyd is my favorite of them all. And Crimson is high up.

Well for me i think i already said it, but i've been listenign to my dads music for as long as i coan remember, and he's a deep purple, pink floyd, and led zeplin fan, among others.

As for Prog ... i've liked it for a while just never really knew what it was called. And i have you to thank for hitting me with King Crimson ... even though i knew of them before.

heh, my dad grew up in teh same neigborhood as him. They both lived in Willowdale when they were in high school. Though they were on opposite ends of the neigborhood.

Heh. You still have much to learn on them  (It's not a band where you heard one album - you heard them all. Quite opposite. Ideally you should hear all 13 at least, very least the 4 great prime ones).

Oh yes, and back at you - thanks for persuading me to get off my ass and listen to some Tool. Not something I regretted, either.

Now, I still can't get Floyd *dodges flying objects*

No, really, I tried. It's great, well-written songs, but none still hit me. Maybe I'm looking at it from the wrong angle. Maybe I'm just stupid. But Floyd still hardly do anything for me.

Everybody can't get 'em... but have you listened to all of the albums? They've got about 15 albums and no more than maybe 4 of them in total share common vibe/style with any other Pink Floyd album. (Actually those four would be The Wall to The Final Cut and Momentary Lapse to The Division Bell) Those albums are great, but the rest of Pink Floyd's material is all unique. Some stuff I think you should check out if you haven't already - "More" "Obscured By Clouds" and if you can get a hold of the live portion of "Ummagumma" without getting the expiremental disk. If you haven't heard "Meddle" and "Animals" you should most definetly listen to them, neither album gets much radio play at all around here but those are two of their more popular albums amoung fans so you might have already heard them.

yea i know, you've explained all the changes in the band to me a few times. Only problem was that ITCOTCK was specialy priced ... all their other albums are specialy priced too, but not the kind of special i like ... but eventualy i will get more.

heh, no problem. if you get a chance, download their album "Salival". If you find it in stores though grab it. If you find it wiht the box set, definitly grab it. The box set was discontinued in 2001, but i don't know if the individual album is for sale.

I doubt it. Just because a band is good and a lot of people say it's great dosn't mean it has to hit you the same way it hits them. Like you've said so many times music is a totlay subjective thing, different people will pick up different things from the music they listen to. Maybe it just dosn't hit the right notes* to hook you like it dose for other people.

* no i'm not talking about actual musical notes ... it's just an expression for my lack of a better word.
