It's because we're proud of our music. \m/
The above should be a representative, not an indicative, sample.....and if you're not listening to Agalloch, you're WRONG.

Heavy Metal, Speed Metal/Thrash, Hard Rock, Death Metal.

Nailz lists some good bands there, if he recommends them, then chances are, they kick ass like his recommendation to me of Elvenking ("Pagan Purity" is a damn addictive song)

/me checks out the non-bolded list of bands

Ah. Thanks then :)

Odd; never thought of 'em this way, but suppose it makes a certain amount of sense; though I still find it weird that it's called that. Still, I find it less an alternative and more a development/mutation of existing styles.

But I guess it answers my question; as the guide says - they're not really a style so much as a movement.

AMG can be useful I guess. Last time I visited them I was appaled/amused at the fact that they rated my favorite albums very lowly, and less favorite albums - otherwise, so I left. Heh. Teaches me not to follow other's judgements

Collective Soul
Dido
Coldplay
John Mayer
Matchbox 20
Moby
Pete Yorn
and Radiohead

Oh yea, to give you an idea, my favorite artists are King Crimson (far and above all), the Sylvian/Fripp/Gunn band, Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Gentle Giant, and a few others, but anyone with musical knowledge will get the idea :)

Industrial, IDM, Electronic, and Cold/Darkwave, mostly in that order.

Skinny Puppy, Autechre, tweaker, and 16Volt fit these.

I'm also getting into Otohiko's recommendations, and the powernoise movement (Merzbow, Converter, Dulce Liquido, Tarmvred, etc.)
If nothing else, harsh noises get your attention.

Oh we know. All to well

I remember when you posted a long (really long) post on King Crimson and its history, and the first response to that was me with: "Are your fingers bleeding? "

Me? I like a mixed bag of stuff.

Soundtracks, rock, alternative, etc.

Current favs.:

Orgy [HELL YES , if you don't listen them then you are WRONG

Red Hot Chili Peppers [they help me mellow out. very good stuff]

Blue Man Group [another if you don't listen to them you're WRONG]

Hoobastank

Various OCremix stuff [if you haven't checked that site out, you should]

Starship Troopers OST [actually, just one song: Klendathu Drop. That song fuckin' owns]

Big O OST [BIG O! BIG OOOOOO! BIG O!]

Outlaw Star OST1 [Through the Night and Hiro no Tsuki are among the best songs evar]

Ranma OSTs [Op/Ed, and "Karuta Cards": a bunch of song covers and funny ass skits (like a band of Mousses trying to sing, I KID YOU NOT, funny shit]

Sonic Adventure 2 OST [Sonic music has always been good, but this is very good, along with my other fav. SOnic music: Sonic CD]

Evangelion OST1 [THE BEAST]

And I have noticed that the majority of music posters are Metal fans (aka Frequent listeners and appreciators). CAUTION: don't make them angry
The Big O will KILL you!
