I suppose that's because I seem to like industrial (or at least Orgy and Deadsy, and PM5K, and Zeromancer seems to be growing on me....)
That's not industrial!
Close enough though. You should try 16Volt or Klute or Ministry. Especially Ministry. You can find "The Land Of Rape And Honey" and "The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste" for dirt-cheap at most CD stores now.
Oh, and ohGr, expecially if you like Orgy.

evanescence is the closest thing to Metal I've heard come out of the 'mainstream alternative' in a long while. I absolutely love them. I don't understand how you can think they're not talented.

Well, the only things they have going for them are a female signer and a good riff hook. Other than that, their instruments are played with as much precision as any other mallcore band. It's just that they don't downtune.
Like I said, I hate them for other reasons, really. They come into mainstream with a sound that isn't really theres, then market themselves as a revolutionary band because they have 'OMG A FEMALE SINGER!!!1'. I'm in a band, so I guess I have more of a jaded feeling about a bunch of whiney milksops taking my sound, degenrating it into it's most simplistic and musically defficient form and strutting around as if they're the fucking Beatles of the new age, when they have absolutely no right to. Not to mention the millions of ignorant fans that do nothing but praise them. And what of the real band, behind the scenes, that actually deserves the recognition? They never get radio play or promoted to the masses. They don't win awards and only have (in the grand scale of things) a scant fanbase. I suppose I would be even more angry if Nightwish wasn't as popular as they are over in Europe.

Orgy and Deadsy ARE NOT industrial. As for the other bands, I don't really know the other bands to well. All Though if you like then genral sound of Orgy, you might like some real industrial music. Listen to some stuff like Skinny Puppy, Throbbing Gristle, and Front Line Assembly. Bands like that.Vlad86 wrote:x2ithaqua wrote:They remind me of Lifehouse. A decent band, but overplayed.
So you want to hate them, but it really isn't their fault, at least not directly.
Fucking radio.
System of a Down ,I think, lost some respect due to radio overplay. I really like them too.
However, I stopped listening to the radio years ago. I only listen to what cds I buy, or music I download.(I do so love Overclocked Remix)
My only gripe about metal is that the majority I come across sounds too '80s
I suppose that's because I seem to like industrial (or at least Orgy and Deadsy, and PM5K, and Zeromancer seems to be growing on me....)
but I also been giving heavy listening time to the Blue Man Group, my anime osts (Ranma, Evangelion, Big O, Outlaw Star, Hellsing), and other osts (Halo game ost, Starship Troopers ost)
Also, the music from the Lord of the Rings is also quite appealing.

Maybe because the real band is all about the music and doesn't care about money?Set_Abominae wrote:

At least that's the impression I got the last time I asked you about how money factored in.
I think you're just mad because your favorite music isn't in the spotlight. If Nightwish was the number one band in the US, you wouldn't be talking them down like you do other popular bands.
It's all about musical tastes: you like it or you don't.
Nobody forces you to listen to it.

I didn't saying anything about taste. It's not like I can't give an explanation as to why Evanescence isn't musically good. It's just not the main reason why I hate them.Vlad86 wrote:Maybe because the real band is all about the music and doesn't care about money?Set_Abominae wrote:

Yes, I am mad that good bands aren't in the modern mainstream. If there something fucking wrong with that? I didn't think so. There's no reason to be so fucking cynical about it.
I practically am forced to listen to it. It's everywhere and inescapable. I turn on the TV and the song is being played on a show or a comemrical for them comes on. Sure, I mute it but vexing it is to mute almost every commercial break for that crap. Then I change it to a movie channel like HBO and the shit is played in a commercial for HBO and have to mute it again! Then I get tired of that crap and go on the internet and it's even worse here. The feces of Evanescence is spread all over the net. And it's always the same goddamn song! My mind is screaming!
It's not that I actually have to hear it. It's that I've heard it, hated it, and now how to deal with seeing it and being reminded of it everywhere I go. I suppose I could splash acid in my eyes, then jab knives into my ears for good measure.

That's what I mean about tastes. Some people will think that a band lacks even a trace of talent, while another will praise them for good music. What's horrible guitar playing to you may be appealing to others, and vice-versa.Set_Abominae wrote:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Yes there isSet_Abominae wrote:Yes, I am mad that good bands aren't in the modern mainstream. If there something fucking wrong with that? I didn't think so. There's no reason to be so fucking cynical about it.
For the very reason of how you replied. Don't be so mean and it won't come back to you.
And once again good bands by your tastes, but not neccessarily by everyone elses. (In fact I feel the same way that I'd love to see some of my favs in the mainstream, but once they were in the mainstream, you'd lose some of your elitism because everyone would know who you're talking about)
Boy, I don't know where you go, cause I never seem to have that problem. Then again, I don't listen to the radio, and don't watch much TV.Set_Abominae wrote:I practically am forced to listen to it.
