Feel the Real
Heavy Metal is has a great sound range with plenty of emotion from dark to light topics. You have you're light hearted classic metal with songs like Let's Get Rocked and Cherry Pie. You have your darker metal with songs like Master of Puppets and most things by Slayer. Don't know about you, but I like a kick-ass feeling to music.
I have watched a techno AMV or two. Techno has its uses, but generally I find the sound to be a little flat and far too synthetic.
I loath popular music because it survives on the moment. It whores itself to marketing. I just think that sould be beneath real music. Not to mention the high number of novelty songs that get old quick. True music should be beyond time, but things like solo artist, hip-hop, and boy bands (perhaps not all solo and hip-hop, but a lot) tend to have short careers unless they completely change into something else.
I shun no music due to the opinions of others as I intend to make my own choices.
I agree with taeli disliking something because others like it is silly. Though I would not recommend things by Brittney Spears. A large part of her music is dependent on computer effects especially in the vocal overlay department, but still taeli had a good point. Of course I think Nailz was just joking. but eggplant? better than pineapple I suppose.
Oh el_farlo if you miss Metallica's more metal days, as they did a soft song or two during the load and reload era (damn do people hate Nothing Else Matters.) Try St. Anger (album not the song), I found Dirty Window particularly good.. The album goes back to there angry metal days. Try to remember they actually did some slow power songs in the old days too. Fade to Black was on their second album, Ride the Lightning.

I think that... while there is absolutely nothing wrong 'per se' with heavy metal, I think zealots who love it and shun all other forms of music, should be shot. No offense.
I myself, have a few metal songs in my collection. But for someone to say techno and shit is horse shit... that's just wrong. For starters... someone might actually compare the two.
And we wouldn't want that. We wouldn't want someone to say that Techno follows rules and regulations embodied in music theory. We wouldn't want someone to say that Techno involves intricate melodys beyond lamen comprehension. We wouldn't want someone to say that it takes forever to master a simple Electribe, when anyone with two arms and a few fingers can smash their hand against electric guitar strings and step on a distortion pedal. We wouldn't want anyone to say that Techno has the capability of engaging the mind in expansive limits, whereas all metal can do at the very best is give somebody a raging headache.
We wouldn't want that.
Heavy metal is good music. Techno is good music.
'Nuff said.

Try it
Damn Unsent Vibesthat was kind of cold to sign out on both are good.
Besides plenty of metal follows forms, but the great thing about art is its adaptablility. Heck some even put out books with the notes.
Techno can go for the complexity, but it just doesn't have the feel of a real instrument. It can't have that concert feel or that passion of music found on stage. The sound range never seems to have the depth. Though it can be played in clubs so that is kind of nice.
A lot of metal is beautiful. The Memory Remains and No Leaf Clover from the orchestrated album S&M are prime examples. Fade to Black from Ride the Lightning.
A lot of the songs on the Metallica's self titled album are timed very precisely. Found that out working on a vid or two.
Playing the guitar takes a lot of work. You have to keep track of fingering, what threads to hit, the time signature, how hard you press, and the strumming pattern.
I know the type of metal you're refering too. It tends to give metal a bad name. I don't like it either.
Never gotten a headache from Metal, cept maybe Death Metal.
What did you mean by expansive limits? like what?
Techno as far as I have seen is like most other music, it tends to focus on love or relationships or some sort of how to live basic philosophy.
The album Load is themed against drug and alcohol abuse. Though it is not a perfect example of metal, it still features plenty of metal songs.
I do agree with you though. People that don't give things a chance shouldn't form strong feelings about a topic. You have to really know something before you can come up with a solid reason not to like it. You are certainly right about that.

Re: Feel the Real
i didnt hate metallica for nothing else matters, in fact metallica's instrumentals were the stuff of theirs that was my favorite, they just lost the lyrical content. st anger reminded me of why i started hating the band.HeavyMetal wrote:Oh el_farlo if you miss Metallica's more metal days, as they did a soft song or two during the load and reload era (damn do people hate Nothing Else Matters.) Re: Try it
I mean like mind expansion. Like music that would simulate an LSD trip. Music that can create an out of body experiment. Music that can bring your soul in communion with the Goddess, Jesus, and Buddha altogether. Music that'll send you to other planes of existence. (Although to be fair that's not exactly Techno, as it is other forms of Electronica.)HeavyMetal wrote:What did you mean by expansive limits? like what?
To be honest, I am not at all a big fan of Techno or Electronic. When I wrote that last post of mine in this thread, I was actually thinking about my beloved Hip-Hop. And when you take away the lyrics, aint much difference in the essentiality between Hip-Hop and Techno.
But either way... iregardless, there are only two types of music. Good music, and bad music. And a lot of music unfortunetly now and days is made by talentless garbage from all genres (Except maybe reggae. I've never heard any reggae made by people full of talentless garbage.) And when you look at the negative stereotype, you can easily hate ANY form of music.
But all genres have their high notes. A lot of Metallica's older stuff, before I realized Metallica was nothing more than corporate capitilist pig shitters, I used to absolutely love. There are a couple other Metal bands I still enjoy listening to, whom are quite talented. But I don't like them because they are metal, I like them because they are good.
And while I'm not a big fan of Techno, there is plenty of techno I like as well as dislike. Simply because it's either bad, or good.
As for the feel of it not being a live instrument, that's very true. The essence of electronica is artificiality. However, I know some bands such as System of a Down (Though one may argue they are not heavy metal) use synthetics. Serj Tankian during live shows has on many occasions rocked Korg DJ Dance tools. And because of the machines used, they can only function as a live instrument. (Though they don't sound as such, because they are synthetic.)
I'm rambling on here, and I shouldn't. Bottom line: There is good music, and there is bad music. 'Nuff said.

Me, I hate techno/pop(however for weird reasons I have a soft spot of 80s pop, everything else however SUCKS)/trance but thats my personal opinion. I try not to judge people by their music tastes. As long as they don't diss my tastes then honestly I dont care.
As for Metallica, I blame Bob Rock. If he didn't try to make them "sound better" then we wouldn't be having this discussion and Metallica would have made a few more great albums with Flemming. Of course thats only my opinion. I honestly don't mind St. Anger, and if it were not for Load or Reload to put me into liking metal I would still be listening to Michael Jackson (scary I know, even more frightening for me to look back and think I used to like that stuff) so I have to at least give them some credit for not throwing away their instruments and become a boy band. However "And Justice For All" will always be my favorite album from them. In the end however I blame Bob Rock, I say if they want to get back to their old days then start with getting Flemming Rasmussen back and shut off MTV.
