I've never actually heard it yet, though I probably will eventually. I've read the story behind it, etc...Sousaphonist wrote:Err, Der Ring, or more fully, Der Ring Des Niebelugen. Darn gender-sensitive articles....
Not that I'm a big opera fan, but it'd probably be interesting. See if they ever decide to perform it around here.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Rolling Stone - 21 minutes (Humble Pie Rockin' the Fillmore)
Those songs would be somewhere on my list atleast...

Sinking in a gentle pool of wine.
Don't disturb me now, I can see the answers

That's "In A Gadda Da Vida" The name came from the band leader trying to sing, in the garden of eden, when he was drunk. it's a little over 17 minutes but often was much longer live.Trident wrote:George Gershwin--Rhapsody in Blue. 16:27.
Iron Butterfly did a song called something like "Enna Godda Davida" (something to that effect) back in the late '60s or '70s. It's been years since I listened to the song last (praise all things holy) but I remember it being something like 15 minutes long.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Pictures at an Exhibition, 38 minutes
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick 42 minutes
Those are the ones I can think of at the moment.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

"Child in time" by Deep Purple - over 10 mins. The only long one I like. It gives me chills.

Depending on how good of a video store you have around where you live, you might be able to find a performance of it. A lot of opera's actually not that bad if you can handle several hours of singing in a foreign language.Otohiko wrote:I've never actually heard it yet, though I probably will eventually. Another long song: Ravel's Bolero is about 13 minutes. (Can you tell which people were raised on classical music?)

I'm cool with that. Besides, it is Wagner, and I never assumed his music to be particularly boring.Trident wrote: Depending on how good of a video store you have around where you live, you might be able to find a performance of it. Speaking of which, digging through my King Crimson collection, I must correct some embarassing (for a KC fan) misses, including
Lizard (1971) - almost 23 minutes, and includes KC's take on Bolero
Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part I (1973) - 13:36
Moonchild (1969) - almost 13 min.
