Except that Lacuna Coil is very often referred to, and rightfully so, as goth metal. And since Evanescence has a similar sound, it's only reasonable to group them the same (despite Evanescence being more popularly known as nu-metal).nailz1000 wrote:Yes, but the original poster called Evanescence and Lacunia Coil goth, making all genere references obviously null and void.flint_the_dwarf wrote:Er, but those aren't even the same genres.
The bands Farlo listed not only could not be classified as the same type of metal, but they don't even sound similar. So that's like me saying...
Blind Guardian > Iced Earth > Beethoven > Metallica > Aerosmith > Bon Jovi > Backstreet Boys > Hanson

Whoa, you think Blind Guardian are better musicians than Beethoven? Or is that just that you enjoy BG better (probably the case, I wouldn't expect unreasonable claims from you)
Anyway,

No no, there's no way in hell I could think BG are better musicians (even if you somehow fused all the members together). And I'm not even sure which I prefer more, it's just that BG more appeals to my tastes lately. Same with Iced Earth.
If I were to try to assess each band/musician objectively, then my list would be much different.

Well, I haven't heard any Lacuna Coil, actually. Do there happen to be any samples anywhere?
Evanescence are alright, I suppose. I mean, they're interesting enough musically, and even their mainstream and over-played stuff is reasonably listenable.

Amazon always has streaming samples, if you don't mind that.

Of course, those are all short, but meh. If you want, you can check the Century Media site for samples.

Hmm, well, judging by these, I'd say I still prefer Evanescence.
They seem to use the female vocals more effectively, and with finer musical textures. Lacuna Coil seems more heavy-oriented

Why is that people here hate the "eye roll"?
Really, it's most childish.
I'll listen to those streams later but going with what Otohiko said, I'll probably like Evanescence better still.
Amy's voice is one the great things about that band (besides the lyrics)
