Is anyone here actually into REAL metal?

You weren't reading hard enough I think. If we have no lack of one type of 'die-hard' fans, it's the metalheads. I dare say they're darn close to being the only real regulars in the 'Music' section here.
Not that it's a bad thing...
No, I'm no hardcore metal fan, though I am sympathetic to this musical direction.

I don't personally classify a lot of the things listed at the beginning of this thread as "metal", but whatever
I'd say when it comes to rock, even though I like a lot of genres, I like REAL rock, meaning I like old shit like Van Halen, Twisted Sister, and Guns & Roses. There are other good genres out there if you want to try them too (just a suggestion), like Wierd Al's comedic stuff (thanks Sousaphonist), or Techno. And long live the real rock.

BTW I wasn't trying to be critical, I was just stating my views on rock.
You can listen to whatever you want.

I'd say that, yea. Except I'd say that one should listen to whatever they think is best...TheKorovaMilkbar wrote:BTW I wasn't trying to be critical, I was just stating my views on rock.

'...as long as it's for the right reasons.'
There's nothing wrong in liking some generic pop or nu-metal if you think their approach to music relates to you and the uncomplicated delivery suits your taste.
But if you're listening to things like that because you think they're the most difficult, intensely-musicized stuff in the world, I'd say you're fooling yourself.
But there are good reasons to listen to pretty much any kind of music imaginable

The problem with that is that I see so many guys who try to prove they're tough by listening to rap.....LOUDLY. (you know, so we "know" they're tough )
It's annoying, they don't do it for the reasons you listed.

Well, in a sense, that is a valid reason for listening to that type of music. What else will give 'em the macho feel better? (well, I'd say metal, but not everyone would agree).
Valid, but disrispectful to others. Although myself, I'm against all sorts of noise pollution (most public places with constant background music tend to offend me on some level)...
Then again, I do have a sadistic urge to play something really weird to annoy others in return, though that usually has no particular effects on my ego...

I guess so, but that's so naive and retarded of them. Stupidity is a terrible disease.

When it comes to the metal I listen to, most of what I favor is Industrial Metal, but I do like some NWOBHM, hair metal, and various eras of prog metal, but I can't really pinpoint particular bands because I've only heard two or three songs from most of them, unfortunately.
lol. I usually make people think I'm crazy by starting off with one style of music and then switching to something totally opposite. I once went from Sarah McLachlan straight into KMFDM. Go figure.Otohiko wrote:Then again, I do have a sadistic urge to play something really weird to annoy others in return, though that usually has no particular effects on my ego...
