Now that's just asinine. I'm not even attempting to make that argument, and you should know better. Remember kids, when you assume things, you make an "ass" of "u" and "me."bum wrote:By that logic all contemporary art and science is somewhat derived from something in the past and theirfor its creator should hold no copyright ownership to their creations.
Each artwork owes itself to the specific past of the creator, therefore it is the creator's own. Science technically is a long string of building upon the past (and sometimes destroying it), but it is the specific minds behind those building blocks that are important. Not everyone could understand quantum physics, even with years of instruction in the subject. So to be able to create new ideas, to push science in new directions, is a "special" thing.
The point I was attempting to make, because you clearly missed it by several miles, is that just like marketing has placed demographics on every type of person there can be, fashion has placed...fashions on them (because the two are closely intertwined). You dress "emo" or "punk" or "goth" or "metal" or "hipster" or "preppy" or "fashioncore" or "grunge" or "skater." "Chic casual." The "laid-back" look. Professional attire. Active-wear. Any way you spin it, you still fit into a catagory...even if you decide to stop wearing clothes altogether.
It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love.

Just how old are you? You sound like an egotistical little girl in year 8.atrophiedXlungs wrote:Now that's just asinine. I'm not even attempting to make that argument, and you should know better. To me, that view is offensive; but I understand that there are many with good reasons for this view.atrophiedXlungs wrote: Each artwork owes itself to the specific past of the creator, therefore it is the creator's own.
And perhaps this is one of the reasons I'm considered a modern-day hippie of sorts.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT
No, I believe I somewhat misread your post. Nevermind.
I don't like the word 'own' in there, but I do believe in artists' rights to the music. There's no question that their experience and personality has a role to play in the music. My view is just that it's not as 'creative' as it's generally assumed.

Think of this. How does Avril Lavigne dress?
Now, WHAT does she sing? Pop. You could say punk, but that would just be stupid. She's a pop singer, so why the fuck does try to look like some goth rocker? She's just a brat, trying to play it cool.
The cheerleaders that went to my school pulled this stunt once. They were trying to prove that they weren't just ditzy blondes (which they are, so much that it's scary, we're talking like only the kind of ditzy you see on tv). So they dressed goth with fishnets and everything. I had to hold my friend, Tiffany, back (which was extremely hard seeing as how she's so incredibly strong) so as not to tear their head right off their shoulders. I was filled with disgust myself though, but I couldn't allow my best friend to get kicked out of school for beating the shit out of someone when it just wasn't worth it.

I do believe how old I am isn't the point here. The point is that you were speaking of logic, while simultaneously making a "straw man" of my post (a rather common logical fallacy).bum wrote:Just how old are you? You sound like an egotistical little girl in year 8.
Also...KorovaMilkBar:
Do you care how the musical artists you enjoy dress? How they look, how they style their hair? I'm assuming you don't, because if you do, I shouldn't be wasting my time replying to your post. So then, if you don't care how the ones you enjoy look, why should you give a flying fuck how one you don't enjoy looks?
