gothic metal ey...
Personal Recommendations:
Sirenia
Tristania
Forever Slave
Theatres des Vampires
Angtoria
Epica
Atargatis
Crematory
Gothic Metal In General:
Imperia
Theatre Of Tragedy
Trail Of Tears
After Forever
Flowing Tears
Within Temptation (Earlier Stuff)
And I'm sure someone else will add to the list and add some doom recommendations as well.
/end
Oh and before anyone tries to pull a fast one, Nightwish is not Gothic Metal...and as for Cradle Of Filth, though I am one of the rare few who will admit to liking them in public I did omit them as I myself am not sure where exactly they would fall, extreme gothic metal maybe? Is there such a thing...alright I'm done now....and yes I agree that Metallica sucks now, but opposed to popular belief, I thought they sucked from the beggining.

Oh how convenient. A theory about God that doesn't require looking through a telescope.

Easy there Damian, first of all, for a goth you have no idea what Gothic music is or who even plays it.
"black and stuff"? that was the best you could come up with to describe your true gothic awesomeness?
You are confusing Goth with Emo, it's a common misconception...I can't blame you there for just saying random crap you heard somewhere, however, this thread really is going nowhere now and whatever purpose you hoped to prove, you have failed.

"goth" as you're doing it is a fashion fad, geez. Seriously, I swear, people like this are giving "goth" a bad name. I don't know if there was ever such a thing as real goths - but if there were, they certainly weren't running around listening to pop-punk and emo.
To me, it's a crying shame when someone pretending to be all dark listens to far "lighter" music than I do - when I more or less fall under the generic definition of "hippie".

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

90% of those bands re: your first post barely border on rock. I'll give you Metallica and L'Arc~en~ciel as rock (Ive never heard L'Arc~en~ciel but Ive heard good things so they get the benefit of the doubt) but the rest are pure Emo, screamo and punk.answers.com wrote: Goth
n.
1. (Ethnol.) One of an ancient Teutonic race, who dwelt between the Elbe and the Vistula in the early part of the Christian era, and who overran and took an important part in subverting the Roman empire.
2. A member of a Germanic people who invaded the Roman Empire in the early centuries of the Christian era.
3. you = not goth
I listen to what we at the org like to refer to as nu-metal with some occasional rap/rock: ie: hatebreed, dry kill logic, 40 below summer, ill nino, mushroomhead..so forth. (yea yea I know... gimme a break) BUT notice it still has the word metal in it. This is because while not being terribly heavy nor having a lot of from the bowels groans its still heavier than your "goth" bands like GOOD CHARLOTTE and FALL OUT BOY
*sigh* .. no youre not.Kid buu102 wrote:And if there are no goths, what am I? I'm a goth
ps. youre not a goth cuz you wear black and people think youre weird. (Thats attention whore... not goth.)
pps. Emo kids wear black too dont forget. (Also attention whore...)
ppps. I bet Panic at the disco and Simple plan falls under "you know the rest"

I'm sorry, but I know no "goth" who could possibly like Good Charlotte. Good Charlotte took something raw and energetic, punk, and combined it with something corporate, shallow, and catchy... pop. How is it that a goth, who generally as a rule strive for "individuality," could listen to such pseudo-rebellious garbage?kid buu102 wrote:Are any of yu Goth? Period. And if there are no goths, what am I? I'm a goth. I love all kinds of rock, And just because we dress in black and stuff, doesn't mean we worship satan.
I feel that "The Sound of Muzak" lyrics are appropriate here...
"The music of the future
Will not entertain
It's only meant to repress
And neutralise your brain
Soul gets squeezed out
Edges get blunt
Demographic
Gives what you want
Now the sound of music
Comes in silver pills
Engineered to suit you
Building cheaper thrills
The music of rebellion
Makes you wanna rage
But it's made by millionaires
Who are nearly twice your age"
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Kid Buu: No, Goths don't have to worship Satan. But it's best if people THINK they do, it adds to the gothiness. :O
But just to continue this thread for the heck of it, lets compare some lyrics. I'll start with Type O Negative, which is a rather unique goth group who sound more like a parody of Goth metal but it still works.
"I built myself a nice little cage
With bars of anger and a lock of rage
I cant help asking whos got the key?
When I know damned well its me"
--Gravitational Constant
Okay, that was a bit emoish, but try these:
"On muddy ground - Im lying drunk on her grave
Where I must wait - until she wakes
The soil splits - greenwoods ground will quake beneath me
And so shall take - into the earth
To the green light - to the green light - baby - baby - baby"
--Creepy Green Light
Compare this to anything from Fall Out Boy. Which is more goth? Come on now.
