Jesus fuck are you serious? That might've been pretty cool in his time but nowadays that's just Bloodhound Gang mentality. Avant-Garde artists are fucking ridiculous, enjoy your red circles on a canvas that represent the inner depths of the human soul.

I read up on him, and it's cool that he was able to do classical composing, but how does that help me when I just don't like any of his guitar work and normal rock albums? I might listen to those orchestrial works but honestly if you'd base the importance of music only on cold hard facts all we should be listening to is Bach, Mozart & Mahler and nothing else because everything else is garbage compared to classic.

I'm of a different mindset on that. There's one huge difference between the Bloodhound Gang, red-circle artists and Zappa: beneath the ridiculous lyrics there is some really awesome, creatively-arranged, polyrhythmic and otherwise interesting music going on, featuring some of the best musicians of their time doing their best work. Fuck the lyrics (or just laugh at them) - but musically, it's honestly just really interesting, top-notch work IMHO. If you can't tell the difference between that and the Bloodhound Gang, I think you should be worried. That's what I was getting at. I saw Zappa Plays Zappa last year; Dweezil ain't his dad, even if he's a superb musician, but otherwise it pretty much solidified my faith in even Zappa's more popular band work. The anti-pretension, fuck-all sentiment is vaguely the same as the original punk movement, but IMHO Zappa's musicianship while maintaining that sentiment puts punk as such to shame.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I can agree with pretty much all of this, mostly because it doesn't make Zappa sound like that much of a genius/god anymore and isn't total fanboy talk. The musicians were doing great stuff and the music sounds interesting. But I'm still not buying the whole 'THIS GUY INFLUENCED EVERYTHING IN MUSIC'-speech and I never will. The guy isn't perfect, especially since you basically just told me to ignore all of the lyrics since they're so ridiculously cheesy. I can't do that 'Fuck the lyrics'-thing, never could. That's probably why I can listen to hip-hop when most other musically interested people can't anymore (because musically there is just nothing going on there in rap). I can only ignore lyrics when I don't understand them at all, hence my love for brutal death metal.

That part was only about the lyrics, since it was all that band had that one could talk about.

Uhm, I might be wrong here but I think Punk would've pretty much sold out its basic concept and ideas if they'd have gone for the whole complex polyrhythmic thing. The main idea of Fuck-All also includes not being a music student and pretty much doing as little work as needed for the end product. Punk was meant to be raw and simple.

I'm not going to consistently kill Moonspell, but a lot of what I've heard has been relatively mediocre.

Frank Zappa was really important. And, being able to appreciate comedy in all forms, I can certainly enjoy both the music and the lyrics of his works at the same time.

And if Oto was talking about Robert Fripp, then you could call it fanboyism. Zappa really is just that good.

And punk sucks dick for exactly that reason.

Yeah for sure, all punk is the same and can be boiled down to an oversimplified and vague description, therefore it sucks!
