Grenades are gone from TF2 entirely, with the exception of demoman pipebombs (which work slightly differently, though not much). TF2 gameplay as a whole is dumbed down in comparison to TFC, but there's always Fortress Forever if you want TFC gameplay on the Source engine.

I think i might have to go out and buy the Orange Box myself now that i'm at home and my friend that was letting me use his account actually has a working connection now.
