Re: Vent Thread
Facebook needs an "I plan on drinking heavily tonight" button so I can't embarrass myself later. Luckily for me I have "tolerance" which is compounded and aided by "budget" but even that only goes so far... what the hell, who convinced me evan williams was an ok brand

Re: Vent Thread
Since July 4th is on a wednesday, I still have to go into work the Monday and Tuesday before, take the 4th off, and then come back to work the Thursday and Friday after.
um what?
Why can't we just get that entire Monday, Tues, Wed off? Having one day off in the middle of the week breaks the rhythm.

Re: Vent Thread
My company's 9-80 schedule means we have that Friday off as well. Taking bets on who actually comes in on the 5th. If I'm lucky nobody will even be in to open the lab I work in.Castor Troy wrote:Since July 4th is on a wednesday, I still have to go into work the Monday and Tuesday before, take the 4th off, and then come back to work the Thursday and Friday after.

Re: Vent Thread
I'm pretty sure I'll be working on the Fourth. And the day before and the day after.

Re: Vent Thread
I've been bombarded with 6 different assignments from 3 different people and all have "need it yesterday" deadlines.
Unless I clone myself or get any help, I can't get any of them done within any reasonable amount of time.

Too many chiefs and not enough indians.
Yes, I'm aware posting here isn't helping with my time situation, but herp a derp.

Re: Vent Thread
Been having internet issues for the past couple months, or longer, but recently it's been worse. At times, frequently, the connection drops to a download of like 10-50 kbps (maintaining an upload of 1+ mbps) or lower. Makes it so I can't even watch streaming video without a 20 minute show taking 30-40 minutes.
Charter came out and checked things and said we're getting a strong connection from Charter (supposed to be a 10 Mbps line), so the issue is probably the modem/router which we bought to avoid the extra $10/month fee. I think it could also be my wireless card, or the fact that we have three wireless connections in the house. Judging from the fluctuating success of the connection, maybe modem/router makes sense (it's a Motorola SURFBoard SBG900). It doesn't seem to matter what time of day, or how many active connections there are in the house. But the modem's not shutting off or restarting. And I'm not very knowledgeable about broadband topics. Apart from the many things I've read about modems/routers/connections, I haven't had much experience working with problems.
Could also be my wireless card, I suppose, but every device in the house has issues at times. I don't have a cable long enough to reach my room, but I'm only maybe 30-40 feet away from the modem. Mine does seem to have the most issues, though, I think.
I can probably return this modem, but to what end? Maybe it's not the issue. Maybe the next one will be just as bad. Anyone have any input, related experience, etc.?

Re: Vent Thread
Basic debug principles dude... Step 1. Direct connection wired to the modem. Do a speed test. If that shows stable, do it again from the other side of the router.

Re: Vent Thread
If you have multiple wireless, make sure they are all working on different wireless channels, and then make sure each channel is a good distance apart from the others. I find that solves most issues (speed, intermittent connection, ect) with related to wireless.

Also, if you live in a congested wifi area, consider installing DD-WRT or similar and broadcasting your wifi on non-US parts of the spectrum.ngsilver wrote:If you have multiple wireless, make sure they are all working on different wireless channels, and then make sure each channel is a good distance apart from the others.
