Well i don't know who he is, or care who he is ... i suauly think of Celine Dion when i think of french singers ... but she sucks ... i hate her ... well not her ... just her music.ithaqua wrote:Everytime I think of french vocals, I think of Roch Voisine, and that he sucks.
If you don't know who he is, you're obviously not Canadian.

Hell, the only songs in french that I have ever enjoyed were part of the Bebop soundtrack. Fantasie Sign comes to mind. As for Rammstein in english, I am happy to say that I have never listened to those translations. Unlike a good many americans I have a pretty decent comprehension of german, but the ludicrousness of the lyrics don't get to me as long as I just tune em out. If you want stupid lyrics though, listen to Greek songs. Actually, don't.

Heh well the best comparison i can make is like some of the dubbing in anime, I'll use Kenshin for example.....just another one of those shows that should never have been dubbed to english, so ya, after im done rambling, music should just be left in its native language, if you cant take my word for it just listen to the dutch version of barbie girl by aqua.

I like french, and I bet many people like to sing in french, well I know many who do, and of course I'm not talking about the french speakers.
And sometimes a song sounds better in another language than its native language. I like The Beatle's version for "she loves you" and "I wanna hold your hand" in german better than in english, that may be because I dont speak german The only Laura Pausini song that I like is La Soledad, the spanish version for La Solitudine, ok I like both versions, but I like the spanish better than the italian, which is the original.
Talking about versions of a song in different languages, the meaning of the lyrics may change from one language to another, even when it's neo-latin languages like portuguese, spanish, italian, french...
Back to rammstein, that english version of Du Hast isnt the translation of the Du Hast lyrics in german. There is this amv I would've liked if it wasnt for the subtitles in english for the Du Hast song in german, because I know the subtitles dont match the lyrics in german. The subtitles use the english lyrics for the song which is different from the translation of the german lyrics. Even if the translation of the lyrics in german doesnt match the footage so well as the lyrics of the english version, the amv would still be better without subtitles. Maybe the german speakers would be a bit annoyed with the lyrics not matching so well the footage, but it's not as annoying as having subtitles that dont go with the original lyrics. By the way I cant find that amv in animemusicvideos.org, it's by Scott Danzig. I'd like to have that amv if I could find it without subtitles.
I know I've said I dont speak german, but I know people who do and also I've found sites explaining this.
Since we have a german person on this subject, I'd like to ask Giton to clarify the differences of the english and german version of Du Hast, and maybe comment these translations, other germans in this forum could help too:
