I'm annoyed to have rap fans (I won't mention any names) come in and incompetently and inconsiderately proclaiming rap 'the best' and the rest 'the worst'
besides one name we're ALL tryin to avoid, doesnt seem to me like the rap kids start ANYthing.

erghh.
take back what I said about that.
Beastie Boys do rock and they play the same beats over and over again.

I'm just tired of their lyrics, like what captain tylor said

Why I dislike rap, :?:

I'm like your parents, an old guy, give me that old rock and roll. :D We all seem to like what we grew up with.

That monotonous beat, little tonal variation, like polka only worse, a little goes a long way. :(

The themes of racism, drugs, violence, sex, not very uplifting or soothing to your emotions, rather driving you to black moods and hatereds.

The language, anything that needs obcene language to try to shock me is below contemptable to me. :x

Apparently, most rappers I've heard have such a low opinion of their society, and themselves, they would need a stepladder to scratch a snakes belly.

Each of us has our own likes and dislikes. I will respect the rights of others, to enjoy the music that they wish to. I will not tell them they have to like my choise, or that their choise is evil or the worst genre. I only ask that you respect my right to chose which type of music I enjoy. If you ask, I will give you my reasons for not chosing your music, it's nothing against your choise, but only my personal opinion of the genre.

my $0.02:

I think that when you were you yougenerally listened to whatever the hell was on TOTP (for England) or MTV (for everyone else), and didn't give a damn because it was all good, ad you could dance like a maniac (hail to the maniacal dancing), but as you get older you start listening to one genre that fits how you feel at that time more, this leads to listening to more "underground" stuff and less of any "mainstream" stuff. This, i think, shapes our musical taste for the restof our lives....i may be wrong, and don't quote me one any of this.

But on to why a hate rap with a passion: not only is it the monotonous beats with very little emotion in the vocals, the......not so interesting lyrics and the loud-car-speaker idiots who force thier musical taste on me just because they have a car with a sound system.

It's none of that really, its more the fools who shout at me on the high street, the idiot who can't even come up with something more intelligent than "Oi you f**king goth! Yeah you!" *i proceed to walk off* "Oi! Don't you f**cking walk away from me!.........F**KING GOTH!!!"

This can, in really bad cases, go on to physical abuse and more verbal tauting.....not that getting hit in the side of the head hurts, or the word "goth" offends me, it just pisses me off to think that they are so stupid that they think it will hurt and does offend me.......

/end rant

Anyways, so long as rappers and rap fans keep themselves out of me & my friends life then i have nothing against them, I just don't like the music.

Hmm, interesting point. I don't think that's exactly true, from my own observation, but still an interesting point on the growth/narrowing process of music tastes.

That sort of ties in with that point I made about how it's not that I dislike rap, but that I've just found what I was looking for in music which is in a different direction from the rap approach altogether.

I wonder if it's really true that rap fans are all so forceful in asserting the assumed quality of their music. I've been getting that impression - maybe it's not true. But those encountered so far have been very defensive and even offensive as far as advocating their preference
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Because son_goten likes it and bad mouths metal demonstrating his obvious lack of knowledge about it.

No, just kidding I would never hate something becuase someone else likes it. That would be the same as letting someone make a decision for me.

Okay I dont hate it, but I hate most of it.

Some rap has class or at least humor so it is cool. Heck I still remember half the opening to the Fresh Prince.

I mentioned son_goten to let people know I don't dislike MOST (but not all) rap out of ignorance, but because I like to give music a chance first. The vast majority of rap just blew that chance to impress me in any way.

But here is why I hate, loath, detest, and desipe most rap. (In no particular order)

1. Singing with no music. Its all computers and synth.....lame.

2. Ultra repition of both lyrics and beats without a sound range varied enough to make up for it.

3. Zero style in most cases. (I call it the Hollywood Hobo look.)

4. It sold its soul to MTV and marketing.

5. The song topics are pretty narrow.

6. Small sound range. I like bass (a lot, its part of what makes Metal, Metal), but damn it takes more than that.

I hate bass boosts too. The stupid things typically make music sound like its under water. CDs are professionally done in sound editing they don't need something to screw it up. The only people that need them are those that have burn out part of their hearing range.

7. Materialistic like crazy. Its petiful. All the money spent on cars that are expensive, but not really that great compared to others.

8. Devalues women. (Sorry but I go for girls with class.) Even still the girls that really are ho don't deserve the crap in some of the really violent rap. (pimp slap a girl in my presence and they'll be the next ones getting bitch slapped.)

9. Stupid slang. If it gets any worse rappers will be using terms like nanny nanny boo boo.

10. Dry humping videos get old. Most are really the same too it gets boring with club scene after club scene.

(Not to mention there really isn't much anyone could do to be wild or sexual that rock or metal didn't do a million times. Plus they really lived it. It wasn't some fake as hell stage act.)

Thats the biggest thing right there. Its so damn fake. New rappers get changed out all the time. Each with some constructed style which gets used and tossed. Nobody stands out after a while or makes their own path anymore. Its such a show. I need music and style.

One last thing. What did Tupac do to be a gangster? I remember going to school the day after he was shot. The place was in morning. So I asked someone why. They said the gangster rapper Tupac was shot. They could not tell my why he was a gangster though.

Personally I thought it added up, act like a thug, get shot like a thug, die in a gutter like a thug, get forgotten like a thug. Its not like it should have been surprising like it was for people. Its like being surprised that a rock star dies of liver damage.

Sorry if I pissed anyone off. If someone thinks a song or singer can change my mind believe me I would love to change. I do like some hip-hop.

Well, there's no to much I can say that hasn't already been said.

As was mentioned before, rap is extremely repetitive (but then again almost every song is repetive to a degree), using the same beats over and over, there's just no change in feeling so most rap songs get old fast.

Also, very few rap songs have a "sweet spot". Basically a point in the song that makes you want to keep listening over and over to song. It can be a riff, chorus, a small tune in the background etc.

The vocals in rap also (except for a very limited few) sound extremely alike, dull, and just simply boring and unispiring.

Also, an automatic way to get me to hate a song is to introduce who you are IN the song at the begining (what? are you doing that becasue you want people who download your song to know it's you?) The "yo yo this Red man and Dre breakn' beats to yo ear lobes" and other just as stupid sounding intros. Also, yelling out "REMIXXXXX" is an automatic whatthehellwereyouthinkingnobodylovesthatcrap.

Alot (if not most) rap fans listen only to rap. They never bother to expand their musical horizons andinstead doom themselves to only one kind of music (well it is the best  )

The addition of stupid sound effects "watch Ima gonna smash yo window *crash* how you like dat?" it doesn't add to the song it detracts from what little (if there really was any to begin with) song there is.

The slang words are horrible. "Bling bling"? Can't you just say shiny? "Ice"? Can I put it in my drink? WTF is a person's milkshake? is it edible?
It got so bad that even Bill Cosby told them to shut up.

The people who drive in cars with the bass turned all the way up (on their cheap thrown in the car at Wal-Mart subwoofers) so that you can't tell what's being said anymore, it's just an on and off *thump* *thump*. And when a car has the windows up, it sounds like a gigantic cell phone on vibrate.

While I do like some slow songs, some to speed to the music is always good (so it sounds like the artist is getting a work out on their instrument). Rap for the most part is SLOW. In fact you feel like you're sitting still with a guy talking to you. The music doesn't sound lik it's mvoing, going places, or that you can close your eyes and imagine something.

Also, you can't air guitar, or air drum to rap. I guess you could air scratch or air thump or just move your mouth.

Rap fears complex music. With too much other stuff going on you might forget someone is talking, and Mr. rap artist doesn't want to be forgotten. (no musical harmony or "spotlight sharing")

What kind of music do you see inteligent people listeing to? Not rap.

I'd try to think of other reasons, but I'm posting so late, that I can not even guarantee this post is fully comprehendable.

Yeah things like Remixxxxx get really cliche.

Its like saying I can't right lyrics so I will say this instead.

And some the sound effects really take me back to the days of 8-bit gaming.

I'm just waiting for the lyrics to go to that too.

'hit em the head pop a coin out their ass
and buy yourself a stash'

or something like that.

i dont hate all rap...

infact alot of old rap is tolerable, back when it was orriginal0(well as original as it could be with the sampleing and all)... beastie boys old days, digital underground, run dmc, old public enemy, most of the stuff up to "gangsta" rap was quite tollerable...

nowadays rap seems to be a homogenized commodity
