Hey, I'm using that stream right now, stop dumping your data into it.

It may or may not mean anything, but the C++ joke in this post is significantly lamer and less funny than the C joke quoted above....which was pretty stupid to begin with.

ontopic:
Nirvana; good band, but too many teenagers bow down and worship them without seeing them in the context of their time and scene. I was actually in my formative years while Nirvana was an active band, so I have a bit of perspective on this.

When Kurt blew his head off, most of my friends were bummed and depressed. That's the usual, normal reaction when a good, influential musician dies for a stupid reason. One of my friends cut "KURT" into her forearm with a razor. That's not a normal reaction, but that sort of fannishness becomes more widespread as more people see Nirvana as some kind of heaven-sent idols rather than as a good band.

I thought their popularity at the time when they were active was pretty well deserved, but their current popularity is 90% due to the manner of Kurt Cobain's death, which is stupid.

Nirvana is not overrated.

Is frickin awesome.

Kurt was the John Lennon of grunge. The Leonardo DeVinci of alternative.

The band was not around long, but produced several hits and even more awesome songs that could not be put on TV. (MTV wusses)

I don't expect most people would connect with such a serious artist.
Plus MTV and VH1 completely twist the facts to dramatize his life to gain ratings.

Kurt was an artist in a very true sense of the word.

He was not so depressing, though his music was dark.

He had a sense of humor, but most only get the obvious parts like wearing a dress to the Headbangers Ball. (That was pretty funny though.)

Drugs were probably what lead to his death, but no one really knows. Hell there is speculation as to it being a suicide or not. It would have been awfully easy for the police to write off without through investigation, but who really knows.

Popularity:
I think the current popularity is really just Nirvana fans missing their mentor. Previously unreleased songs re-awakened a long lost love of Nirvana.

I don't think it has anything to do with his death, as death is meaninglyless without the life that preceeded it.

Interesting Thought:
I've always thought Green Day was just another lame punk band, but I think they channeled Kurt when writing their new song Blvd of Broken Dreams. The scheme is a lot different though.

To bad they kept that stereotypical less than orginal punk style, but perhaps there is hope for today's music yet.

Sigh, Damn I miss when the days when music was not about image.

Sorry, that came out more insulting than intended. I just miss the long hair, bright lights, ripped jeans, and no apologies attitude of past music.
From AC/DC to Zepplin.
