I think it's more, dress in the genre that you play in. Take this for example.

Rap: Baggy pants, bennies over the eyes, guns, stocking, suspenders.. oh never mind about those last two.
Metal: Long hair (Very long hair sometimes) T-Shirt of their favourite band and jean's, sometimes trackpants, boots or some sort of high shoe.
Punk: Pink/Yellow/Blue hair maybe green if your lucky, shirt and pants x10 too big and maybe a spike collar.

If you sing punk, dress like one, if you sing goth, dress like it, it comes natural that when you enjoy the music that you either 1) listen to or 2) actually play at gigs, you dress accordingly to that genre of music.

Next time I go to a gig i'll see if the screamer (not vocalist this is metal im talking about here) has green hair and maybe some bling bling.

Stick to your own genre, don't start messing with the clothing, I don't want to go to an Iniquity concert and see them jumping around like a punk band with high heels, 80's studded leather jacket's and some bling bling.

I usually don't judge people by their taste in music, having left such silliness back in jr. high. However...

Avril is the Queen of Punk. Anyone who disagrees obviously knows _nothing_ about music and I'm afraid I would stop respecting any other opinions put forth.

Try these names on for size: Chris Spencer, Steve Diggle, Doc Dart, Larry Lookout, Ben Weasel, Joe Lally, J. Robbins, Jake Burns.

How about the late, great Will Shatter?

Everyone of them acknowledges Avirl as the Queen of Punk. Who are you to argue?

I caught her lip syncing one time on All That. I HATE when artists lip sync to live audiences...

I can tell you've never seen Curl Up and Die live. They're a metal band who always dresses in Abercrobie & Fitch. Beyond that, quite a lot of metal (most specifically grindcore bands) were heavily influenced by punk / hardcore bands. So shouldn't they, by way of their appearance, pay homage to all the diverse styles of music that inspire them?

Anyhow, my point still stands: Isn't it about the music? Or rather, shouldn't it be? It's fine if you don't like Avril (or anyone for that matter) because you dislike the music they create. But disliking a musical artist because you don't like the way they look and / or dress is just superficial.
It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love.

First of all, WHAT have you been smoking, because it's affecting your thought process. She is not paying homage to anybody, she's just trying to look like a badass. Second of all, I guess by what you're saying I should pay homage to classical music by wearing leggings and puffy shirts when I sing heavy metal, I mean, after all, the music we have today came from that.

Again, what does she sing? POP. And what do I hate. POP

2 + 2 = 4 <----I thought they would have taught you that in elementary school

I am the VP of Marketing and PR for Arista records.

If you find Avril Levine too mainstream for your pre-packaged rebellion needs, we offer a full assortment of bands for over-the-counter counter-culture.

Now get out there and consume. Only through purchasing can you show your individuality!

So you both think that uniforms are a good thing in music? I couldn't disagree more. I believe that conformity within musical "scenes" of things like appearance leads to the stagnation of music within that scene. The easiest way to explain it is like this: A smart guy once told me there are two basic groups within any underground music scene, there are those who pay tribute to bands of the past, and the pioneering element. Conforming to any specific look or sound is destructive to the pioneering element within any scene, and speeds along the degradation of music as an art form.

In case it's not obvious by now, I don't give a flying fuck what you wear. Feel free to wear pantaloons, or a seafoam green pleated skirt, or fishnet stockings on your arms, or a suit of armor...I really don't care. It's your life, wear whatever the hell you want.
